Telecommunicators take emergency calls and dispatch police, fire and medical services, and also take non-emergency calls. This position requires extensive training and familiarization with emergency service dispatching entailing a 9-1-1 system and hired persons will be trained to be familiar with all aspects of emergency dispatch center operations. All positions are full-time. This is a 24/7 operation - there are 3 shifts, and work will include holidays and weekends. Shift differentials are added to base pay for 2nd ($1.00/hr) and 3rd ($1.50/hr.) shift work.
Minimum starting pay is $23.57/hr, and may be higher with experience.

Training, Experience and Other Requirements
•Graduation from an accredited high school, or GED.
•A passing score on an on-line computerized test is required, along with successful completion of subsequent verbal and practical testing and examination.
•Must successfully complete a law enforcement background check suitable for working with public safety responders.
•Must satisfactorily complete a prescribed course of training for Telecommunicators and serve a one-year probationary period.
•Prior emergency dispatching experience is preferred.
•Must be available and willing to work weekends, holidays and all three shifts as needed to provide adequate staff for this 24-hour operation.
•Successful candidates for the position must pass a hearing test.

The job of Telecommunicator requires access to Criminal Justice Information Services such as the Crime Information Bureau and the National Crime Information Center. These agencies may deny access to their systems based on a background check suitable for law enforcement. Denial of access to these systems would make a candidate ineligible for hire for the position of Telecommunicator.
