Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • Manage and coordinate all activities (workshops, conferences, special events, summer schools, etc) sponsored by the Brin Mathematics Research Center and Mathematics department
  • Discuss planning events with distinguished faculty, faculty sponsors, speakers and participants, including support with event material preparation.
  • Communication with visitors and participants.
  • Coordinate facilities, food, travel, and lodging arrangements.
  • Oversee events budgets and be responsible for allocating encumbrances to stay within budget parameters.
  • Process travel requests and expense statements for all participants using UMD travel system SAP Concur.
  • Business Office assistance with overall administrative and financial processes.
  • General business office support and assistance with the financial/administrative operations in the department.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree.

Experience:


  • 2 years related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge in federal and state regulations governing travel. Knowledge of the federal Uniform Guidance governing federal research grants.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. Strong database and spreadsheet computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment. Ability to emphasize secure use of departmental travel card and procurement card.

Preferences:


Preferences:


  • Conference Planning certificate from an accredited organization.
  • Experience with Priority or related account management software.
  • Working knowledge of university travel and procurement systems.
  • Knowledge of general higher education environment.
  • Knowledge in federal, state and university regulations governing travel and procurement preferred.
