Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The gas accountant, under moderate supervision, is responsible for analyzing and recording the physical flow of gas and related financial information for Northern Natural Gas Company's monthly pipeline operations. This position assists in the development of business policies, conducts special financial and business related studies and cooperates with other departments in the preparation of analyses.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
Analyze and record NNGs physical flow and financial information relating to Northern Natural Gas pipeline monthly operations.
Prepare, audit and record to general ledger all transport revenue, fuel used/retained and perform variance analysis for internal management.
Analyze and evaluate the accounts relating to those activities.
Must be able to manage data within a database environment in support of the physical flow of gas.
Work with data warehouse to extract information in support of the general ledger and regulatory/financial business requirements.
Prepare and reconcile detail between Oracle G/L and the database.
Assist personnel on customer accounts.
Act as a resource/lead for accountants in reviewing work and providing information to enhance co-workers knowledge and skills.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
This is a multi-level posting.
Bachelor's degree in accounting is needed for all levels. MBA or CPA preferred.
The Accountant position requires zero to two years of related accounting experience using computerized accounting systems. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
The Sr. Accountant position requires two or more years' experience in accounting, financial planning, finance, public accounting or other related experience.
The Technical Accountant position requires four or more years' of experience in accounting with emphasis in financial analysis.
The Sr. Technical Accountant position requires six or more years' experience in accounting with emphasis in financial or regulatory reporting and financial analysis.
Familiarity with NNG gas tariff is beneficial.
Experience with database environment including data reporting.
Ability to maintain focus amid rapidly changing demands and priorities.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to be able to interact with multiple levels of business and technical personnel.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills in order to recognize and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
