    The Assistant Controller, Emerging Business is a key member of the Emerging Business Division that serves as a lead resource in implementing and maintaining Scoular's accounting practices, providing insightful, timely, and accurate financial information, and ensuring the safeguard of Scoular's assets including assisting in the development and adherence to key internal controls.

    The Assistant Controller may also include supervision duties on accounting staff and/or trade operations. Lead accountant for Emerging Business Division, supporting FOG desk, ethanol trading, oil refining and crush accounting.

    Reviewing and analyzing potential risks and proper accounting treatment for derivative contracts, spreads and hedgesLead for the accounting and reporting for the capital expansion in Goodland, KS and the corresponding fixed asset/long-lived asset accounting setupPartner with IT to develop and enhance operational reporting and controls at our Crush and Oil Refining facilities.

    Manage, execute and optimize monthly close process ensuring GL entries are correct for month-end, and leading the division monthly consolidated financial statementsReconcile and explain the actual to estimate for month-end close variances for margin and operating expensesProviding analytic and insightful information to assist with division strategies, including assistance with budget, forecast and long-range plan process, while also performing ad-hoc reporting and analysisProvide guidance for the operational accounting process related to crush facility in Goodland, KSEnsure the financial control framework is in place to ensure that safeguards are available to protect Company assets.

    Align and enforce policies that adhere to GAAP standards and internal control practices.

    Prepare and review Scoular's SOPs (Statements of Procedures) for best practicesReview existing operational and accounting processes, structures, and systems to identify improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization, and optimization, especially the reduction of manual activitiesAct as a business partner with other departments and personnel, internal and external audit teams, supporting information requests and alignment.
