    With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

    This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, C. M. Tucker Nursing Care Center, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.

    As the Certified Nursing Assistant/Unit Clerk, you will work under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor. Provides specialized nursing care to a culturally diverse geriatric and psychiatric population requiring long-term nursing care based on individualized nursing care plans, performs various clerical functions by assisting physicians, nursing staff, and other pertinent facility staff, and maintains current medical records according to the facility's policy and procedures.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Serves as a role model for the C.N.A. staff by demonstrating effective leadership and communication skills.
    • Reviews nursing care plans and assignment sheets and assist other certified nursing assistants in providing a safe and therapeutic environment.
    • Demonstrates competency in assisting with monitoring resident care, C.N.A. documentation, and other related activities with completeness and accuracy.
    • Makes meaningful observations. Maintains organized documentation of residents' records, and report findings to the charge nurse for follow-up with appropriate personnel.
    • Serves as a mentor for all certified nursing assistants.
    • Understands quality and performance improvement management and actively participates in continuous quality control management.
    • Schedules residents' appointments, notifies appropriate personnel in the S.C.D.M.H. Reimbursement Office via e-mail and fax. Notifies the proper personnel of resident bed or room changes and ensures communication of resident diet changes to nutritional staff.
    • Prepares consultation forms as facility policy dictates. arrange weekly medical visits to include consults and lab results and sends requested resident care and treatment information to P.T., Speech Therapy, R.T., Dietary and Podiatry.
    • Maintains accurate and current labeling of all residents' folders, ensures prompt completion of consultations, files and scans all documents into resident's E.H.R. system according to facility policy, maintains laboratory and consultation log for facility reimbursement and notify the Nursing Administrator monthly, and sends all medical records to the HIS Department within five (5) working days upon the discharged or death of a resident.
    • Answers telephone and corresponds with visitors politely and professionally; Orders, maintains, and stores adequate supplies for efficient unit operation per pre-set stock levels; monitors expiration dates; confers with nursing staff regarding the residents' care plans.
    • Assists with escorting residents to their doctor's appointments.
    Minimum and Additional Requirements

    State Minimum Requirement: A high school diploma or GED.

    Agency Minimum Requirement: Must hold credentials as a certified nursing assistant.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    Additional Comments

    The selected candidate will work 8 hours daily; 80 hours bi-weekly. Shift work may be required. Must be able to physically be able to bend, stoop, lift, sit, and stand daily. Must be able to perform MAPS and emergency measures to individuals with cardiac and/ or respiratory arrest and other emergencies. Demonstrates a safe and effective use of resident care equipment. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds (may be required to lift more during times of emergencies). Daily contact With Supply, Food Service, and Environmental Personnel.
