    Job Summary

    The College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler is accepting applications for the Director of the School of Education position at the rank of tenure-track Associate or Full Professor. The College is seeking an effective leader and communicator who could advocate for students, staff, faculty, and programs. The School of Education currently offers an undergraduate degree in Education with 10 certification area options, a minor in Education with 10 certification area options, four Masters of Education Degrees (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Reading, and Special Education), a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with initial teaching certification (Grad Teach), a Doctor of Education (EdD) in School Improvement, and a Superintendent Certification program. The School of Education has a collaborative partnership with the University Academy public charter school district which employs STEM education and active-learning, hands-on experiences, and is housed in the College of Education and Psychology. This is a full-time academic position in the School of Education within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Essential Functions

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    Lead the School of Education faculty and staff in the implementation of processes and systems to ensure compliance with Texas Education Code, Texas Administrative Code, Texas Education Agency, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
    Coordinate strategic planning and goal setting.
    Recruit, retain, evaluate, and promote faculty.
    Evaluate and mentor faculty and staff within the school, including supporting faculty in the development of their research agenda.
    Advocate for students, staff, faculty, and programs within the school.
    Support College and University initiatives.
    Establish and support partnerships with local area schools.
    Maintain reliable availability and schedule on campus.
    Schedule regular faculty/staff meetings and communication.
    Promote a collegial environment within the School of Education.
    Manage the department's budget.
    Develop the department's course schedule.
    Determine equitable faculty teaching assignments and overall workloads based on departmental instructional needs and faculty research engagement.
    Promote innovation and development of new academic programs based on regional needs.
    Recommend adjuncts, specialists, and field supervisors for employment.
    Collaborate with the academic advisors to ensure students complete their degree within the required timeframe.
    Support program coordinators and staff including but not limited to ensuring compliance with Texas Education Agency and university policies.
    Review students' academic records and recommend eligible students for graduation.
    Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses.
    Pursue an active scholarly research agenda.
    Seek grant funds to support research and teaching activities.
    Contribute to the university, the East Texas community, and the profession through service and outreach activities.
    Other duties as assigned that support and promote the School of Education and the College.

    Required Qualifications

    Doctoral degree in education or an education related field.
    Evidence of university teaching and research activity appropriate for i) an associate professor or professor and ii) a director leading the School of Education.
    Experience leading higher education programs and faculty.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Doctoral degree in educational leadership, educational administration, or school improvement.
    Three (3) years of teaching experience and/or other related experiences in diverse PreK-12 school settings.
    Previous administration experience.
    Experience with the Texas Education Agency's Continual Review Process.
    Understanding of the Texas Administrative Code and Texas Education Code.

    Strong leadership and organizational skills.
    Demonstrated computer literacy and use of PCs and word processing packages.
    Experience working with students.
    Strong time management skills.
