    ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN - naval shipyard, United States - Department of Defense

    Description

    Duties * You will coordinate the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department work package development, which requires the integration of many different work phases in the overhaul, maintenance, modification, refueling and testing of nuclear reactor plants.

    * You will provide advice to the Reactor Plant Planning Yard, the project, Fleet Forces, Reactor Plant Contractor's Office and NAVSEA, and recommendations for design changes and resolves conflicts concerning work package development.

    * You will assure proper staffing, timely completion and budgetary control involving the overhaul or conversion of the reactor plants for nuclear powered submarines and surface ships.

    * You will exercise full administrative and technical project management for regularly assigned work responsible for analyzing and resolving technical, administrative, financial and scheduling problems.

    * You will coordinate the Department's work and schedules, to discuss and resolve technical and administrative problems that may involve the overall divisions of the Department.

    * You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.

    * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

    * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

    You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

    Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.


    Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

    • Experience understanding nuclear engineering methods, techniques and engineering principles such as structural, mechanical, industrial, metallurgy, hydraulics, chemical, electrical, quality and radiological controls.
    • Experience applying principles and requirements of Project Management Fundamentals (PMF).
    • Experience overseeing the planning, coordinating, and executing of nuclear work of various trades in support of ship system overhaul, repair, or modification projects.
    • Experience effective communication both verbal and written, as well as interfacing with upper management.
    • Experience identifying and analyzing potential risks/problems, recommending corrective actions, and developing the best approach to the contingent response to the planning of projects.
