    University City District (UCD) is a non-profit, special services district that leverages a unique partnership of universities, health systems, large and small businesses, and community groups to invest in public spaces, address public maintenance and public safety issues, bring life to commercial corridors, promote job growth and innovation, and connect residents to career opportunities.

The Manager, Research & Analysis position is an exciting opportunity to help understand the many dimensions of the neighborhood that UCD serves and inform all aspects of organizational strategy and communications. The position will initially report to the SVP, Strategy and work across the organization to support data needs including public safety, real estate, transportation, market research, and workforce development, among others.

    The Manager is responsible for research and analysis across a wide range of areas impacting everyone who lives, works, or spends time in University City. The Managers work will advance UCDs hyper local focus, but their research and data findings will also help to influence policy and practice on both a local and national scale. As a growing organization with evolving and expanding needs, the position is a good fit for someone with a wide range of interests who enjoys and responds well to new research and analysis challenges.

    The Manager, Research & Analysis will:

    • Work with organizational leadership to determine and advance UCDs research agenda.
    • Design and implement new research programs, potentially including a field research component. Leverage findings for maximum impact.
    • Conduct ongoing research and data analysis related to economic development, demographics, commuting and visitor traffic patterns, residential, office, industrial, retail and hospitality industry performance, job growth, and more.
    • Define research methodologies, data collection strategies, and analysis frameworks to ensure robust and insightful outcomes.
    • Facilitate the communication of data and analysis across UCD for a range of purposes including grant applications, improving public space maintenance, event planning, and public safety.
    • Ensure research outputs meet industry standards, are data-driven, and provide actionable recommendations.
    • Use current subscription-based software programs that include and combine with other publicly available data sources to conduct research and collect data for analysis and reporting.
    • Identify other applications/software required to produce outstanding economic development data.
    • Provide content for UCDs ongoing communications/reports: white papers, bi-weekly eNews, Market Trends newsletter, Public Safety Newsletter, the annual State of University City report, grant reports, collateral materials, social media, and website.

    Manager, Research & Analysis Description

    • Identify novel data sources that bear on key aspects of UCDs work.
    • Present research and analysis in written reports and presentations.
    • Provide data and analysis on University City and UCD to external groups including businesses, realtors, and community organizations.
    • Develop relationships and partner with UCD stakeholders including area institutions and businesses to conduct research, surveys, and special projects.
    • Attend University City District events.

    Top candidates will have:

    Technical Skills

    • Basic programming skills in languages: SQL, Python and/or R, Database management experience, with specific emphasis on Salesforce.
    • At least 3 years of Computer Science, Math, and Statistics coursework. Course work in Economics, Social Sciences, Data Science preferred.
    • Ability to pre-process structured and unstructured data as well as QA and troubleshoot data.
    • Strong reporting and data visualization skills (i.e. in R, Excel, or Tableau).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Experience with municipal open data sets.
    • Experience with Esri GIS products.
    • Experience in research and data analytics pertaining to communities, real estate, development, demographics, and report writing. Non-profit experience a plus, but not required.
    • Excellent project management and time management skills required. Must be detail oriented and able to meet firm deadlines.
    • Must be an excellent writer and communicator and have a proven track record of prepared reports and summaries of research work. Equally comfortable presenting to a c-suite audience, community associations, and government officials.
    • Strong data analysis and independent problem-solving skills. Creative and innovative with good judgement.
    • A willingness to work independently, closely as part of a small team, and across multiple departments.

    Manager, Research & Analysis Description

    • Flexibility and adaptability to take on new tasks with short turnaround times.
    • Knowledge of graphics and publishing software.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively inside and outside of the organization.
