    DSP 1 Position at YAI

    About the Position:

    YAI is committed to supporting individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving their fullest potential. By creating new opportunities for living, loving, working, and learning, we aim to empower and enhance the lives of those we serve and their families. Join our team to teach daily and independent living skills, provide counseling, and promote community integration. The ideal candidate should have a passion for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and be willing to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as showering, grooming, and housekeeping as needed. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) like you work directly with individuals in various settings. In this role, you will typically focus on one specific region.

    Schedule:

    Friday-Saturday, 11pm-7am

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintaining Professionalism and Punctuality
    • Taking Ownership/Accountability

    • Adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations
    • Effective communication and time management
    • Working collaboratively within a team
    • Ensuring facility and program maintenance and safety
    • Completing required trainings and applying learned skills
    • Demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies
    • Prioritizing health, wellness, and safety
    • Providing appropriate supervision to individuals in our care
    • Knowing when to seek support from administrators
    • Willingness to assist with ADLs
    • Transporting individuals to various activities and appointments
    • Building positive relationships
    • Implementing person-centered approaches
    • Documenting accurately for compliance and billing
    • Utilizing teaching skills to support individuals' development
    • Assisting with financial management and crisis intervention

    Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED required; some college experience preferred
    • Prior experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities a bonus
    • Ability to support individuals with disabilities
    • Basic written and verbal communication skills
    • Familiarity with basic computer operations
    • NY State Driver's License may be necessary for certain roles
    • Tuberculosis test may be required for most positions

    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
    • Proactive and willing to take initiative

    Compensation Range:

    $16.50 per hour
