    Clark County Sheriff's Office
    • Corrections Officer Share this post with your friends, family or social circle The duties of a Clark County Sheriff's Office Corrections Officer includes the supervision and control of detainees, enforcement of security rules, regulations and procedures and the provision of services and information to detainees.
    Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the bending pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects, such as in the event of chasing and subduing a detainee resisting control.

    The employee maintains order over detainees and takes appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of the detainees, the public and other law enforcement and detention personnel.

    The employee receives incoming detainees, conducts searches to detect concealed weapons and contraband, places detainees in cells, issues cleaning/sanitation supplies, transports laundry and bedding.

    The employee escorts detainees to and from cells for court appearances, medical treatment, visitation, religious services, conferences, release and other activities.

    The employee complies with booking and release orders and procedures, picks up mail and commissary orders and inspects incoming mail and packages for contraband and other non-permitted items, delivers packages, mail and commissary items to detainees.

    The employee supervises detainee work details in and out of the facility or during recreational activities.

    In addition, the Clark County Sheriff's Office Corrections Officer maintains accurate counts of detainees, maintains complete records and assures that current information on detainees is entered into the computerized record information system.

    The employee may participate in the classification of new detainees, makes cell assignments, respond to inquires regarding status of detainees, visiting procedures and other related detention facility procedures.

    The employee secures detention facility keys, receives status and incident reports and special instructions from other detention personnel. The employee operates an agency vehicle when appropriate to area of assignment and performs related duties as directed.
    SALARYStep 1- $19.59 per hour through Step 5- $21.65 per hour (achieved in four years). Steps are given annually on the anniversary of employees start date.

    In addition annual COLA raises will be granted according to the Clark County Board of Commissioners agreement with all county employees.

    Lateral Entry
    • Applicants who are certified as Corrections Officers in the State of Ohio may begin at step 3 upon employment with the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

    The Clark County Sheriffs Office handles approximately 40,000 law enforcement calls for service annually. Our average jail population is approximately 220 inmates.

    Clark County is home to Wittenberg University and Clark State Community College, as well as several state and local parks, recreational waterways, bike pathway system, art, business and manufacturer centers and open green spaces.

    Springfield is the county seat of Clark County and plays host to the Champion City Kings prospect league team.
    The Clark County Sheriffs Office employs approximately 150 sworn deputies, 30 Communication Operators and 12 civilians. The Office is comprised of four divisions; Criminal Investigations, Uniform Patrol, Jail and Professional Standards. Each division is managed by a division Lieutenant. Three Majors oversee operations of the department with oversight from the Chief Deputy and the elected Sheriff. First line personnel report directly to a Sergeant.
    As of 12/13/19 the position of Correction Officer has been implemented at the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Corrections Officers will play a vital role in the daily operations of our jail facility. Corrections Officers will work alongside Deputy Sheriff's who are assigned to the Jail Division.

    You are required to pass this test to move on to the Structured Oral Interview Board. The physical agility test is a ten step, obstacle course focused on essential job functions. The test does not include a traditional distance run, sit ups or push ups. Where feasible the physical agility test and structured oral interview board will be conducted the same day.
