- Supervises and coordinates patient care on the care unit.
- Ensures that patient care, quality and safety standards are met daily for all patients through caring and leader rounding, leader standard work and performs service recovery as needed.
- Serves as a mentor for colleagues by promoting critical thinking skills in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's plan of care.
- Collaborates with the Unit Based Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist to promote and provide the clinical and professional development of colleague by identifying educational needs, sharing clinical knowledge, and structuring and education plan and educational experience to promote understanding and professional growth.
- Assists in interviewing, hiring, orientating, developing and completion of performance evaluations and/or performance counseling in accordance with employment and payroll procedures in the collaboration with the clinical nurse manager/director.
- Responsible for recognizing colleagues, promoting and role modeling a positive work environment, teamwork, and colleague engagement.
- Pulls Andon to problem solve patient and colleague safety concerns, unmet quality outcomes, unfavorable patient care experiences and escalate per chain of command.
- Current RN license in the state of Iowa.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or commitment to complete within four years of hire. (Master's degree in nursing or health related field preferred)
- Professional certification in clinical specialty obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer preferred.
- Minimum of three years of professional nursing practice relevant to areas of responsibility.
- Progressive experiences in a nursing leadership role; i.e., Preceptor, Nursing Shared Governance, Safety Liaison, Infection Prevention Liaison, course work or work experiences that demonstrate progressive leadership preferred.
- Strong technology skills including software ie: Word, Excel, and Electronic Medical Record.
- Excellent collaboration, organizational skills and leadership skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs and succeed in an environment of competing priorities.
- Self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and written skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain collegial working relationships.
- Ability to work flexible hours. May require after business hours, weekends, holidays and travel.
- Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
- Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
- Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
- Completes Basic Cardiac Dysrhythmias and Management class or equivalent within 3 months of hire, and annual skill validation for Cardiac Dysrhythmias
