    Research Finance Analyst (On-Site & Remote)

    Overview

    Job Summary

    The work location requires one to work onsite two days a week and three days remotely. The onsite days are set by management and are subject to change based on business needs.


    The Post Award Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to manage high volume and high complexity transactions .

    The incumbent is part of the Post Award Team for the Department and is responsible for the full life cycle of post-award management of ~$7M in extramural funds for ~13 researchers (faculty, postdoctoral scholars, fellows, and graduate students).

    The responsibilities include exercising judgment and independently interpreting, analyzing, and advising the Principal Investigators and/or Department Manager for each fund of current and anticipated problems, as well as suggesting the best financial strategy as to how the funds are spent within the framework of sponsor/university/departments requirements.


    The Post Award Analyst ensures spending is by institutional terms and conditions, verifies the accuracy of monthly ledgers, and resolves discrepancies with Contracts and grants Accounting and others.

    The Analyst prepares and customizes bi-monthly financial reports primarily using the MyReports systems and Faculty Portfolio with some supplementation with Excel reports, for each fund to provide a clear financial picture of the faculty's portfolio.


    The Post Award Analyst submits funding entries and salary cost transfers in UCPath, prepares faculty salary worksheets, requests fund advances, establishes speed types and flex fields, and sets up new projects in RAS.

    The incumbent will also prepare financial journals and cost transfers related to the maintenance of their projects, as well as partner with pre-award staff to develop grant application budgets.

    This position reports to the Post Award Manager.

    Please note:

    The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however, a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point.

    An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    The Department of Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology (CMP) is a basic science department within the School of Medicine and performs research and training.

    CMP provides administrative and financial services to 15 primary faculty members; 5 adjunct faculty members; 20 non-faculty academics; 40 postdoctoral scholars and 21 graduate students
    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related area or four years of relevant experience/training AND three years or more of experience handling fund management, administrative operations, or related area.

    Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions.
    Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

    Highly organized and advanced ability to prioritize projects to meet the demands and deadlines of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

    Ability to present complex finance-related information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
    Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

    Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.

    Demonstrated knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

    Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.

    Ability to function as a member of the team.
    Preferred Qualifications

    Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.

    Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to the use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.

    Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques

    Advanced computer skills using MAC & PC including proficiency in UCSF financial systems (MyReports, PeopleSoft/RAS, BearBuy and PLUS Faculty Portfolio) and Intermediate-Advanced Excel to produce reports and integrated spreadsheets.

    Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
