    Description

    Summary:

    This role is part of the Office of the Secretary of Interior IBC HRD Payroll Operations Division, Payroll Operations Branch. The incumbent will handle payroll services using a nationwide automated payroll program covering various pay systems with different pay/leave categories and employment situations.

    The selected candidate must report physically to the duty station in Lakewood, Colorado. This is not a fully remote role.

    This position is open to

    Duties:

    • Process a large volume of payroll or benefit changes impacting system data for each employee, maintaining an acceptable level of accuracy.
    • Research, interpret, and apply laws, policies, regulations, and procedures related to payroll delivery systems.
    • Maintain time and attendance records meeting set deadlines.
    • Correct payroll, time sheets, and benefit records in the computer system, including leave, health benefits, Thrift Savings Plan, and retirements.
    • Interpret and explain Federal civilian pay, leave, and benefit regulations and procedures.
    • Collaborate in a team environment to complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced office.
    • Offer exceptional customer service by communicating guidance to both internal and external customers verbally and in writing regarding Federal civilian pay, leave, and benefit regulations and procedures.
    • Conduct audits for retroactive pay and leave issues using standardized spreadsheets or manual forms.

    Requirements:

    Conditions of Employment:

    • U.S. Citizenship required.
    • Eligibility for Federal employment subject to background investigation.
    • Direct Deposit of pay mandatory.
    • Selective Service registration necessary for male applicants, unless exempt.
    • The selected candidate must physically report to the duty station in Lakewood, Colorado. This is not a fully remote role.

      • Qualifications:

      For GS-05 level, you should meet one of the following minimum qualification requirements for the Civilian Pay Technician, GS-0544 position:
      A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience involves data entry in an automated system, resolving data entry discrepancies, and providing customer service in an office or retail setting.
      OR
      B. Four years of education beyond high school or a bachelor's degree.
      OR
      C. Combination of experience and education totaling 100%. For example, 6 months of experience and 3 years of education above high school level.

      No written test is necessary.

      Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer activities through National Service programs and other organizations. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be recognized.
