    Student Intern-Data Collector and Student Writer: Wake Forest University School of Medicine

    Job Description

    We are seeking a motivated student (undergraduate or graduate) to join our team as a Student Intern. This position will work with the assigned faculty member to support study participants' recruitment and development of high-quality writing to support the dissemination of research findings. Typical responsibilities include creating a study flyer, supporting the recruitment of study participants, developing an annotated bibliography, synthesizing research literature on an assigned topic, copy editing manuscripts, co-authoring the background section of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and formatting manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. The position is with the Department of Implementation Science at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

    RESEARCH FOCUS:

    The Student Intern will work with faculty whose work focuses on developing and implementing community-engaged programs for HIV and cancer prevention. Our research area spans global health, community-engaged research, and implementation science.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma required.
    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student (Social Science, Education, Public Health, Communication, or related field)
    • Writing sample recommended if available.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Performs duties in collecting and documenting data supporting research and information-gathering activities.
    2. Participates in all aspects of research and evaluation activities. Review collected data and perform follow-up activities.
    3. Assists in designing and testing data input sheets and other data collection mechanisms.
    4. Assists in data analyses and preparing charts, graphs, and reports from research data.
    5. Create an annotated bibliography on assigned topics.
    6. Synthesize research literature on assigned topics.
    7. Supports the development of scientific abstracts and manuscripts.
    8. Format manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
    9. Expertise in Microsoft Word and EndNote
    10. Familiarity with different writing styles (e.g., APA, AMA, etc.)
    11. Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively produce high-quality work.
    12. Performs other duties related to the work described herein.
