    WE ARE LOOKING FOR A Senior Manager, Science Communications

    SENIORITY LEVEL: Mid-Senior

    FUNCTION: Business Communications & Sustainability (BC&S)

    LOCATION: Winston-Salem, NC

    ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

    Reporting to the Director of Science Engagement and Communications, the Senior Manager for Science Communications will support the development and implementation of an all-inclusive external communication strategy supporting the company's Scientific Research and Development function.

    The Senior Manager for Science for Science Communications will develop external communications materials to promote the company's scientific rigor behind its products and regulatory requirements.

    This position will coordinate activities in the following areas: public relations, media relations, issues message development, content creation, reputation management, internal event-planning, and support for external events.

    This role will be pivotal in developing and communicating the organization's focus on science and adherence to regulatory compliance.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Develop content including press releases, executive briefings, media statements, scripts, speeches, and editorials.
  • Develop proactive and reactive messaging and materials (Q&A, proof points,
  • Work closely with External and Internal Communications teams to ensure an integrated approach to corporate messaging and engagement activities.
  • Monitor media trends and provide proactive updates.
  • Support web management, Sharepoint, PowerPoint & social media.
  • Manage repository of corporate assets, fact sheets, and messaging.
  • Draft presentations appropriate for lay audiences.
  • Develop conference materials and integrated communications to support events
  • Support internal and external events.

  • ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • At least five to seven years of work experience
  • Proven external and/or corporate communications professional ideally in and FMCG or pharmaceutical company.
  • Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Ability to understand complex scientific concepts and "translate" them for the general public.
  • Proven experience working within a team and delivering through others in a matrixed organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to interact with senior business leaders and experts within a large international company.
  • Ability to engage a range of external stakeholders and provide objective, persuasive point of view.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking: rapidly assimilate a new brief and quickly identify its key aspects and those pertinent to media.
  • Problem-solver and systems thinker with strong delivery capability.
  • Good critical analysis skills and sound judgment, including when under pressure.
  • Ability to perform well at speed, consistently delivering accurate research, writing, and verbal communication to deadlines.
  • Ability to manage numerous demands simultaneously, prioritize, and cope with unforeseen events/crises in a constructive manner.
  • Able to operate independently, taking ownership of accountabilities and outcomes
  • Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field preferred
  • BENEFICIAL

  • College Degree required; STEM-related major preferred.
