Position: Director of Transportation

Reports to: Director of Logistics

General Description: The Director of Transportation will provide management leadership within the Transportation Department and will assume management responsibilities for all facets of Bishop Lynch High School (BLHS) transportation services.

Position Responsibilities

Leadership Services:

Oversee the planning and organization of all Bishop Lynch High School (BLHS) bus routes, including morning pick-ups and afternoon drop-offs at designated locations.

Collaboratively work within the transportation team to develop and maintain appropriate services for all student bus riders.

Create and distribute to drivers updated schedules that display routes, field trips, athletic schedules and all other transportation related activities.

Responsible for the management, training and supervision of BLHS Transportation Drivers.

Create and maintain a schedule of BLHS organization field trips, athletic activities, and contract busing.

Collaborate and provide transportation to Diocese of Dallas schools for student field trips, when possible.

Organize BLHS transportation services for after-school athletic and activity purposes.

Responsible for maintaining records of students/families who participate in transportation services

Recruit and hire transportation employees who possess a valid Class B commercial drivers license (CDL).

Provide for the training and onboarding of new members of the transportation department.

Establish systems and procedures for the safety and security of all BLHS students bus riders, faculty and staff bus riders, and authorized bus drivers.

Liaison Services:

Communicate with the athletic department to schedule transportation for athletic events, both within and beyond the DFW Metroplex, and provide strategies regarding appropriate forms of transportation.

Develop communication networks with parents regarding services within the transportation department, including potential delays and/or interruptions of bus services.

Maintain communication with the appropriate designers at all pick-up and drop-off locations.

Collaborate with the Director of Facilities regarding all maintenance and support vehicles, campus access gates, and equipment required to perform described services.

Communicate with the Director of Logistics as it pertains to matters and/or concerns of the transportation department.

Develop connections with outside vendors including charter bus providers, repair and maintenance services, fuel and equipment services, and safety and security providers.

Maintenance and Services:

Establish a schedule and administer the general preventative maintenance of all school buses, activity buses, maintenance vehicles and school owned vehicles.

Coordinate with outside vendors and providers for repairs and maintenance of all buses and transportation equipment.

Perform walk around on buses and maintain corresponding records of these weekly maintenance checks.

Perform all routine maintenance on buses, including but not limited to, checking oil, water, all fluids, belts, hoses and tire pressure, etc.

Establishes policies and procedures for areas of responsibility and provides internal controls to safeguard all assets related to the Transportation Department.

Budget and Planning:

Prepare the annual transportation budget, maintain expenses within the transportation budget and continually update the long-range strategic plans for the transportation department.

Maintain and review the useful life of bus inventory and plan for the potential replacement, removal, and addition of buses and/or transportation specific equipment.

Initiates new vehicle purchases during the budget process, if possible, using the schools policy for competitive bids.

Maintains compliance with governmental regulations regarding school buses and bus drivers.

Coordinate with the Director of Logistics regarding the preparation, facilitation, and payment of vendor-provided substance testing for all bus drivers.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Logistics.

**Job Requirements**

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in transportation management or business administration preferred.

5 + years of related experience demonstrated working knowledge of transportation services and client communication

Experience in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the safe transportation of students and adults.

Must possess a valid Class B commercial drivers license.

Ability to train and supervise members of the transportation department

Demonstrated management or supervisory experience.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, cell phones, etc.

Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Project management skills, ability to plan and work collaboratively.

Vendor management and maintenance experience preferred.

Ability to thrive in a Catholic high school environment.

Ability to respond to transportation-related emergencies after hours.
