    Position Summary:

    The Department of Pediatrics seeks to hire a faculty member to join the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (GPAM) at the University of North Carolina. This faculty position will lead clinical consultation efforts with the pediatric and adolescent population in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. This position will work closely with the Section Heads of General Pediatrics, Child Maltreatment as well as Adolescent Medicine within GPAM. This position is an open rank, fixed term, variable track, or tenure/tenure track faculty position appointed in the School of Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill.

    Clinical efforts may include:
    -Pediatric primary care, with potential for medical education and academic activities.
    -Inpatient care the Youth Behavioral Hospital (YBH) in Butner, NC. The YBH facility is a newly established and innovative 50 plus patient child and adolescent psychiatric hospital with four individual specialized units serving the children and families. This faculty member will function as a core member of the medical team providing services for adolescents at YBH.

    As a faculty member, this person will join a program that includes board certified general pediatricians, child abuse pediatricians, adolescent medicine specialists, nurse practitioners, LCSWs. A percentage of this position will involve the supervision of medical residents and advanced practice providers; a successful applicant will have a history demonstrating expertise in this set of skills.

    In addition to clinical programs, the division and institution have important research opportunities in adolescent health. Research interests in the section include evaluation of the impact of telehealth services on adolescent consent and confidentiality, use of adolescent-friendly decision-making tools related to contraceptive options and evaluation of factors impacting reproductive health autonomy in adolescents. In addition, GPAM division research focus includes the impact of social and contextual factors on health, childhood adversity, and health inequities. The Gillings School of Public Health and the Sheps Center for Health Services Research offer opportunities for broader adolescent health research.

    The GPAM division is one of the largest divisions in the Department of Pediatrics and in addition to Adolescent Medicine includes Primary Care, Developmental Behavioral health, and Child Abuse pediatrics. The division has a nationally known and productive research program and faculty in addition to a long record of teaching excellence. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beach within a day drive.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    M.D.; Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

    Clinical experience or training in adolescent medicine. Experience in medical education and/or contributions to academic scholarship.
