- Performs and demonstrates dental hygiene services including taking accurate radiographs, dental prophylaxis, periodontal therapy and maintenance, administration of local anesthetics, placement of sealants, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene assessment and instruction, patient management, maintaining patient recurring care (recall) systems, and other dental tasks.
- Prepares treatment rooms, dental instruments, equipment, and materials necessary for effective patient care while following all appropriate asepsis procedures.
- Maintains accurate documentation in patient records.
- Provides patient education, post-operative instruction, and other information regarding care to patients or callers as needed.
- Maintains clinic flow via room turn-around, sterilization, stocking, and cleaning.
- Provides assistance, support, and relief to other dental team members with clinical, administrative, clerical, or business duties or other projects as necessary.
- Performs office and clerical procedures relative to patient records, appointments, and fees.
- Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to efficiently carry out Midtown Health's Center mission statement and comply with its policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and the public and to be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to comply with all occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
- Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to address clinic's needs.
- Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
- Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills highly desired.
- Knowledge and excellent understanding of dental hygiene practice and protocol.
- Ability to operate sterilizer, various dental instruments, and x-ray equipment.
- Ability to navigate Dentrix.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited school required.
- Experience with digital x-rays and electronic dental records is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
