    Perform a variety of technical duties and scientific research work inclusive of: conducting standardized tests, experiments and determinations in support of research oriented activities; maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory; purchasing reagents and supplies; and laboratory organization for a motor neuroscience laboratory.Job Description:

    Required Qualifications

    Education: Associates degree in either a science or veterinary related field. A combination of education and experience may substitute for degree on a year for year basis.

    Work Experience:
    • Relevant experience working in a lab or research setting.
    • Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
    Preferred Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor's degree.

    Work Experience:
    • 2 years of experience working in either a research lab or animal care environment.
    • Veterinary care experience.
    • Statistical data analysis.
    • Computer experience, such as working with research software and coding.
    Skills:
    • Critical thinking skills
    • Interpersonal relationships and technical skills.
    Job Duties Outlined:
    • Animal behavioral training
    • Assisting with data collection
    • Basic veterinary care in coordination with University staff
    • Ensuring lab member and animal safety and compliance with approved study protocols
    • Overall lab management
    • Involved in research conducted with USDA regulated species and must be comfortable with interacting with larger laboratory animals
    • Animal safety and compliance with approved study protocols
    • Assist with performing studies or preparing for surgical procedures
    • Preparing samples for analysis
    • Ordering, maintaining, and organizing inventory in the laboratory. Requisition and receiving of purchased supplies and equipment.
    • Maintain well organized documentation of complex bill payment systems
    • Literature search

    Comprehensive Benefits Package:

    Coverage begins on day one for health, dental, and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan.     Compensation Statement:

    The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
