    Job Summary:

    WESTFIELD INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL COUNSELOR (Temporary)

    Reports to: Intermediate School Principal

    Terms: 8/16/24 - 12/20/24, 7.5 hours per day
    Essential Functions
    1. Provide ongoing programming to assist the school in the development of a positive school environment.
    2. Introduce information about the counseling program for new students, teachers, and parents in the intermediate school.
    3. Assist the Guidance Secretary and Assistant Principal in monitoring attendance of intermediate school students and follow-up on attendance concerns as needed.
    4. Participate in district-wide counseling meetings and professional development opportunities.
    5. Screen and orient new students to the intermediate school building as needed.
    6. Provide counseling to identified student and/or groups of students on issues which affect their academic, social, and emotional development.
    7. Assist the principal and assistant principals with the scheduling of and monitoring of all state testing programs.
    8. Provide in-service activities, resources, and support to intermediate school staff, parents, and students as needed.
    9. Assist building level principal in master schedule and student schedules. Provide assistance to parents and/or students with scheduling questions and problems.
    10. Continue to stay up-to-date with community resources and outside agencies.
    11. Remain current in the counseling field through professional affiliations, workshops, professional networking and training.
    12. Attend, as needed, special education conferences as the advocate and PAR.
    13. Assist Guidance Secretary when sending for records on all new students and send out records on all withdrawn students.
    14. Assist Guidance Secretary with all permanent records and see that secretary keeps them up-to-date.
    15. Continue to be of service for counseling with teachers.
    16. Assist the Principal in representing the Westfield Intermediate School before the public, and maintain through cooperative leadership, both within and without the schools, such a program of publicity and public relations as may keep the public informed as to the activities, needs, and successes of the middle school.
    17. Be an active participant on the School Improvement Team focusing on Strategic Plans.
    18. Be well versed around High Ability and Special Education and be willing to facilitate meetings addressing questions and concerns.
    19. Assist the Principal and Assistant Principals with student concerns as needed.
    20. Perform other tasks and assume other duties as may be assigned or delegated by the Intermediate School Principal.
    21. Coordinate and supervise alternative programming for at risk, academically negligent students.
    22. .General Supervision
      1. Supervise lunch duties as assigned by assistant principal
      2. Supervise halls by being in the halls with regularity during the passing periods.
      3. Be available at the beginning and end of the day for bus duty or in the building as designated by the assistant principal.
      4. Supervise WIS extra-curricular activities throughout the school year.
    Qualifications:
    1. Hold a valid Elementary/Secondary Counselor's license
    2. Meet State requirements for position
    3. Meet all other requirements of experience and character that the Board of Trustees shall require
