- Serve as a direct, and technical individual contributor
- Architect, design, implement, debug HW-SW drivers for the Magic Leap platform, including but not limited to writing device drivers for memory (flash and DDR), SPI, I2C, and GPIO drivers.
- Architecture and design will include writing the driver input/output details, peripheral usage, and memory usage details. Implement will be done to meet product ship acceptance timelines.
- Debug timing, race conditions, memory issues on a daily basis in a timely manner, and may include use of JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, etc.
- Deliver full platform software to the rest of Magic leap's Software team, which includes writing drivers for all needed hardware peripherals, writing the software to boot the Operating System (including memory initialization, and platform initialization).
- Occasional travel to the factory to debug HW-SW issues onsite in order to build MagicLeap hardware with quality and deliver units on time to various other teams.
- Work with cross departmental teams, such as Hardware, Applications, and Middleware to debug cross-functional issues such as memory corruption, timing issues, and performance issues. Write detailed reports on the problem statement and how it was solved to be used as reference for future issues.
- 5+ years experience in embedded software development.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements
- Fluent in C programming.
- Experience with standard embedded development practices.
- Experience in Linux and other micro kernels, with sensitivity to performance, memory utilization, and extensible architectures.
- Experience in writing drivers for various peripherals over various interfaces: I2C, SPI, USB, PCIE.
- Experience with using JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers and other debuggers.
- Experience in designing and implementing asynchronous or concurrent multithreaded systems.
- An understanding of common protocols for communication with hardware and other software modules.
- Sound communicator and self-motivated to complete projects, and enjoy hw-sw debugging.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
- 2-4+ years Experience with real-time and time-critical systems.
- Experience with machine vision.
- Experience in a high-volume production environment.
- Experience with commonly-used mobile operating systems (i.e. Android or iOS).
- Ability to work directly with hardware teams for device bring up and debugging.
- Experience with embedded databases or interprocessor communication layers.
- Factory testing process experience.

The opportunity
The Product Development and Engineering job family is the core of Magic Leap's revolutionary AR capabilities. These highly collaborative teams are responsible for our organization's engineering and technical operations, performing cutting-edge and complex scientific research and development that is 'defined as we build' to create new AR products, features, and marketplaces. Activities include undertaking research, design, development, and implementation activities to improve Magic Leap's AR products and services; designing, constructing, testing, and operating equipment; ensuring that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met in production processes; interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications; and collaborating across all Magic Leap teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality, immersive experience, meeting and exceeding our customer's needs and our business objectives.
As a Senior, Embedded Software Engineer within our Software organization, you will design, optimize, and develop device drivers and systems capable of supporting the most optimal user experience ever seen. You will work on an embedded sensor and display system that requires strict timing tolerances under heavy loads, novel approaches to displaying content, and much more. You will get to make tough technical decisions that help shape the direction of our product.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees. US Base Salary Range $123,000—$172,000 USD
