- Current credentialed coder status required.
- Must have coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Pathophysiology.
- Nursing background highly preferred.
- 3+ years current coding experience in an acute care hospital coding inpatient and outpatient medical records.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Experience with computerized encoder systems required.
- Experience with electronic health records systems required.
- CCS, CCA, RHIT, or RHIA credentialed status required.

Description
Provide advanced experienced level coding position requiring coding education and experience consistent with the job qualifications and credentialed coder status. Responsible for the coding functions of all patient record types. Ensure ethical and accurate coding in accordance with all regulatory and system requirements and AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding.
This is a full time opportunity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review all diagnostic and clinical information in the medical record.
2. Complete coding of simple record types.
3. Ascertain the selection of the correct principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes.
4. Determine proper sequencing of diagnosis and procedure codes.
5. Contact physicians or other health care professionals to obtain diagnostic information.
6. Code the medical record using an automated encoding system and coding manuals/references.
7. Assign correct APC or DRG assignments as appropriate with the assistance of the encoding system.
8. Abstract required data elements from the medical record to create a complete and comprehensive database.
9. Verify accuracy of patient demographic data fields to ensure data integrity and proper reimbursement.
10. Locate and utilize the necessary resources to resolve coding questions.
11. Refer all incomplete or ambiguous cases to the coding supervisor/department manager.
12. Work assigned claim edit and charge review work queues as needed.
13. Maintain current knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems.
14. Maintain proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. Understand new coding guidelines.
15. Participates in ongoing education and training.
16. Other duties as assigned
