- Serve as a policy expert to GA Virology teams and cross-functional teams by assessing external risks and trends in the policy environment and identifying policy objectives and positions of greatest impact to Gilead's Virology portfolio.
- Support the development of proactive, pro-patient Virology policy positions and solutions that are both commercially relevant and achievable.
- Work in collaboration with GA TA Strategy teams, GA geographic teams (e.g., Federal or State Government Affairs) and cross-functional colleagues (e.g., Commercial, Legal, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs) to align on priorities, objectives, and a strategy to amplify the work.
- Serve as a resource to the Senior Director of Therapeutic Area Policy, GA Virology TA Strategy Lead and U.S. commercial leads.
- Conduct policy research and analyze relevant reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and legislative/regulatory proposals pertaining to Virology policy.
- Develop evidence-based messaging and impactful resources (e.g., talking points, position papers, memos, infographics, etc.) to advance Gilead's U.S. Virology objectives.
- Amplify Gilead's policy priorities in appropriate settings.
- Lead and manage multiple workstreams and deliverables to produce high quality, relevant and timely initiatives that are aligned with business and stakeholder needs.
- B.S. or B.A. degree and minimum 12 years of relevant public or private sector experience in the healthcare industry, or combination of experience and any related advanced degree in public policy, public administration, public health, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and state healthcare policy (Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) is required. Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and HIV, Liver Disease and/or COVID-19 policy landscapes is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and driving policy positions and strategies that support business priorities and patient access. Experience influencing policy change at the federal and/or state levels is strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, written and interpersonal communications skills, particularly in interpreting and communicating complex technical information (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles, policy reports, legislation, regulations, etc.) for general audiences.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, high attention to detail and demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple workstreams and initiatives.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
- Prior pharmaceutical or device industry experience or experience within government agencies is preferred.
- Advanced degree in public policy, health policy, public health, or health economics.

Director, U.S. Therapeutic Area Policy, Virology
The Director, U.S. Virology Therapeutic Area (TA) Policy, is a strategic role within the matrixed U.S. Policy team as well as Gilead's broader Government Affairs (GA) organization and will be focused on developing policy solutions for the company's portfolio of innovative, life-saving Virology (HIV, Liver Disease and COVID-19) medicines. This position reports to the Senior Director of U.S. Therapeutic Area Policy and can be based in DC or Foster City, CA.
