Position Summary:
The Network Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the state data, voice, video, and wireless networks.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform a wide range of network administration duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support for Cisco, HP, and Extreme network equipmentEvaluate, test, and deploy software and hardware upgrades to the networking infrastructureAssist in the configuration and deployment of core and peripheral network devices, which will require continuous learning of new devicesProactive monitoring of all network devices, services, and servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA'sCollect and review network utilization data for capacity and planning purposesAssist in developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery plansInterface with vendors for procurement & maintenance of all IT infrastructuresManage & troubleshoot network and Internet connectivity throughout the organizationWork closely with the fellow tech team members to provide end-user support and issue resolutionMaintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and technologiesResearch, evaluate and recommend technologies to support business requirementsCreate and maintain documentation for all processes and proceduresCollaborate with and support the work of other staff engaged in similar functionsAttend and actively participate in weekly meetingsCoordinate with the rest of the Communications Services team to meet the team objectives including VOIP and Campus Security CamerasPerform other duties as assigned Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong knowledge of general networking and best practices Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them as needed Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information Willingness and ability to work from ladders and scaffolding, including heights up to 20', indoors and outdoors Ability to carry equipment up to 50 lbs General Days/Hours: Monday
