THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.
The Labor Market Researcher (LMR) supports the County in making data-informed decisions about the local economy.

Provides consultative services to help individuals and organizations access, utilize, and understand data concerning the building blocks of the local economy:
industries, occupations, employment, unemployment, and more.

Commensurate with their experience, the LMR gathers and analyzes statistical data and narrative information.

Their analysis is packaged as reports, presentations, training, narratives, and interactive products provided to various individuals and organizations including educators, employers, local economic developers, public agencies, and workforce preparation staff.

Deliverables to high-priority customers keep them apprised of the economic health of a region or local area. The LMR analyzes problems, develops appropriate solutions, and recommends effective courses of action for economic and workforce development partners.


The Labor Market Researcher forms partnerships with a variety of local organizations, including integrating services with the Employment Development Department, to promote economic development and job growth in the counties, the surrounding region and the state.

The LMR, independently or in concert with other staff, represents and promotes the Department and the Labor Market Information Division at conferences and other public meetings.


The Labor Market Researcher regularly disseminates estimates of current and projected employment, unemployment, and other social and demographic data for their designated service area.

Additionally, they prepare press releases of current labor force and industry employment data, written industry narratives (as required), trend analysis, and other more complex labor market information reports and publications appropriate to their experience and expertise.

This position is headquartered in the Riverside office and may be eligible for hybrid telework under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

  • Special Requirements
  • A valid Class C California Driver's License is desired.
  • Incumbents must possess 12 semester or 18 quarter units of coursework in any combination of a datadriven research field, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a researchrelated field AND one course in statistical methods.
