    Job Summary

    The Packaging Engineer at this level applies a solid foundation of packaging experience to solving complex assignments, managing multiple priorities, leveraging known resources, doing so with minimal amounts of direct supervision.

    The position supports packaging for Existing Product Support & Quality Assurance, New Product Development and/or as-yet-undeveloped ideas that begin to focus on system solutions.

    This position is responsible for quality of packaging specifications including CAD, Data, Bills of Materials and PLM. Packaging Engineers are responsible for all aspects of packaging structures across all Hillman segments.
    Essential Job Functions
    Design complete packaging

    and


    packaging families for large segments of products ranging from simple to complex packaging systems to satisfy internal & external customer requirements.

    This work is performed with multifunctional development teams with minimal direction from more senior

    packaging

    engineers.
    Directs, coordinates, supports and/or audits manufacturing and packaging activities to ensure

    packaging,

    products, and systems conform to

    packaging

    design specifications and Hillman expectations.
    Provide packaging recommendations and technical leadership for project teams.

    Defines, research and analyzes supplier data proposals, drawings/specifications, application, and materials to determine feasibility of design or application considering cost, time, and other factors.

    May delegate related work to others on the team.
    Predicts test performance based on sound

    packaging

    practices. Plans and directs personnel in fabrication of test equipment. Collaborates to develop methods and procedures for testing product-in-package or packaging systems.
    May perform hands-on preliminary testing of package concepts. Analyzes test data for viability, accuracy, and development of packaging. Participates in and often directs the hands-on assembly or prototyping of

    packaging

    concepts and/or Alpha build products-in-package.
    Investigates and solves problems that affect packaging material quality, sizes, warranty/reliability, and product cost for new and/or existing supplier

    packaging

    Practices use of stage gate development procedures,

    packaging

    tools, and related industry standards.
    Communicates design intent through creation of robust

    packaging

    product specifications and, along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance for successful design execution.

    Education & Experience
    Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering / Science Technology, Industrial Design, or equivalent experience
    4-7 Years' Experience in packaging development and/or testing
    Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    • Critical & Creative thinking. Analytical and logical problem-solving abilities are critical.
    • Must be proficient in various packaging systems & capacities.
    • Essential understanding of packaging materials, capabilities, and equipment.
    • CAD: Subject Matter Expert in ArtiosCAD, Packaging Software, Solidworks, Adobe CS, or PLM.
    • Microsoft Office Suite proficient
    • Able to work independently and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment
    • Ability to work with autonomy as well as collaboratively with segment/quality/product engineering teams.
    • Excellent written, oral, listening, organizational and presentation skills.
    • Provide Constructive Criticism in a Professional Manner
    • Be hands-on and engage with others across disciplines to find solutions.
    • Ownership & integrity of assigned projects & Project Management requirements.
    • Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs may be required

    Office:
    Office setting. Seldom exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Loud working environment of the shop area. Functional vision and hearing required.

    Packaging - Key: Light-Medium, lifting up to 50 lbs.
