    The Principal is an instructional leader for the education program at Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) which serves students pre-school through transition to adult life.

    The Principal works collaboratively with other administrators and the Superintendent to provide a comprehensive educational program for students. The Principal is the direct line administrative authority and professional leader of the department's staff and students.

    Responsibilities include leadership of education programs, coordination of academic activities, and collaboration with other departments in order to provide quality education for all students.


    Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
    Provides instructional and curricular leadership to department staff.
    Provides leadership to the School Improvement Team process including implementation of strategic initiatives for enhancing student progress.
    Provides leadership in the collection, analysis and reporting of student performance data.
    Provides leadership in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and services.
    Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of each staff member and coaches for improved performance.
    Works with the Director of Human Resources in the recruiting and hiring of teachers.
    Leads in the coordination and monitoring of special education procedures and the IEP and/or Transition Plan process.
    Leads in the coordination and monitoring of the provisions of a language rich environment.
    Works in cooperation with the other ISD administrative personnel in the campus wide coordination of services and student activities.

    Work in partnership with the various school districts and Area Education Agencies in the provision of services including integrated experiences for students.

    Develops, reviews, and implements programs to accommodate a varied student population and leads the development and implementation of the Iowa Core and Expanded Core Curriculums.

    Assumes overall responsibility for the scheduling of classes, evaluation, promotion, and progress of students in the department.
    Provides overall development and management of the departmental budget.
    Coordinates support services, such as speech therapy, audiology and other services.

    Collaborates with other educational administrators to leads professional development in collaboration with a team and assists staff in developing and implementing individual professional development plans utilizing the Iowa Professional Development Model.

    Facilitates implementation of the School's Policies and Procedures.
    Coordinates practicum and student teaching programs.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    Minimum of three years teaching experience
    Masters Degree in Education or related field
    Preference for deaf education experience and education
    An in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles in education with an emphasis on education of the deaf

    Fluency in sign language and ability to attain a minimum of an advanced level of proficiency or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview.

    Valid Administrator licensure [Initial, Professional, or Exchange] issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
    Commitment to the philosophy of high-quality educational opportunities and communication access for all students.
    The ability to establish professional relationships and effectively communicate with both deaf and hearing individuals.
    Director of Human Resources (Public Service Manager 1)

    Primary Function:
    Responsible for all Human Resources functions for ISD/IESBVI including:
    Collaborate with ISD/IEBVI and DOE leadership on issues related to the operations and missions of ISD/IESBVI. Serve as a key resources providing guidance and advice related to HR issues, policies, laws.

    Supervise, lead, and direct HR department, ensuring all HR operations are completed.

    Lead, plan, and participate in completion of all HR functions including recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, policies and procedures, leave management, employee orientation and communications, investigations – including participating in the Schools Title IX process, corrective disciplinary action, reasonable accommodations, and FMLA.

    Consults and collaborates with other HR professionals to ensure compliance with the State's Department of Administrative Services-HR Enterprise's policies and processes.

    Prepare and provide information to employees on topics related to human resources and employee benefits. Answers questions and addresses employee concerns.

    Qualifications:

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to four years of full-time work in program administration, development, management, or operations.

    Eight years of full-time work experience in program administration, development, management, or operations.

    A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

    b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience; and

    A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience.

    5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Public Service Supervisor or comparable specific management-level position.
    Provide job training for students and work collaboratively with the ISD staff to ensure that students receive appropriate services
    Assess students for work readiness skills. Match student needs, skills, and interested with available job opportunities

    Work with students 1:1 or in small groups to develop skills needed to obtain/maintain employment such as job searches, applications, resume construction, interview skills, etc.

    Develop and maintain positive partnerships with community businesses and agencies, and assist with accommodation guidelines outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act and other laws/policies.

    Contact employers and develop community-based opportunities for students to job shadow, have exploratory job placements and long-term work experiences

    Connect regularly with job site supervisors to ensure successful work experience placements, resolve problems that may arise, and to monitor students in the field.

    Be available as first point of contact for and provide input to students, staff, and parents for report cards and at IEP meetings (outside of normal working hours if necessary).

    Work cooperatively with ISD staff to develop appropriate learning targets, coordinate scheduling/transportation.
    Maintain a database of work experience sites with relevant details of employment positions.

    Qualifications:
    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    Six years of full-time work experience in the administration or operation/execution (i.e., providing consultation and/or technical assistance to stakeholders, research and analysis, or enforcement of program guidelines/policies/procedures) of a program (i.e., the provision of a service or an administrative oversight/enforcement responsibility).

    All of the following ( a and b ):

    a.

    A total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and

    b .

    A total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

    Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Program Planner 1.

    Ability to meet the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position as outlined in the School's Sign Language Policy.

    Willing to work odd hours and during the summer, weekends, etc.
    Ability to travel within the community regularly; throughout the state occasionally including some overnights
    Strong networking skills to build relationships with business community members.
    Must have understanding of the needs of the Deaf and hard of hearing.
    Prefer experience working with students/young adults in the workplace.

    Description:

    DESCRIPTION:

    Works with students at Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) and Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (IESBVI).

    Responsible for supervising students and providing activities, instruction, guidance, and direction in development in areas of independence; appropriate social, emotional, linguistic development; and the Expanded Core Curriculum.

    Primarily works evening shift. Occasional weekends and other shifts may be required.
    Primary caretaker for deaf students and/or blind students primarily during non-classroom hours – typically during the evening shift. Ensures students are safe and engaging in appropriate activities. Ensures the dormitory and other areas used are safe and secure for students.

    Provides support for students:
    social, emotional, and educational. Counsels students; provides guidance.
    Plans and implements appropriate social, emotional, physical, and intellectual activities for students. Works with Student Life Advisor (SLA) and others to develop individualized student plans. Collaborates with education program to support student educational goals. Provides language immersion and supports for language development.
    Communicates with colleagues, supervisiors, and parents regarding student-related issues, concerns, and progress. Fosters positive, collaborative relationships with parents and other professionals.

    Ensures that dormitory rules are followed by the students; uses disciplinary action when necessary and reinforces positive behaviors using PBIS.

    Completes required documentation regarding students. Provides feedback for evaluations, IEPs, and dorm individualized student plans.
    Tends to medical and personal needs of students. Participates in medication passing as needed.
    Assists with driving and chaperoning weekend trips between dormitory and home (minivans). May occasionally supervise out-of-town overnight trips for school activities.

    Qualifications:
    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in art, the behavioral/social sciences, industrial therapy, music, occupational therapy, physical education, recreation, rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, or other closely related fields; OR
    experience at a level comparable to Activities Assistant or above may be substituted in any equivalent combination for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for each thirty-semester hours of education to a maximum of four years; OR

    employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to two years of full-time work as an Activities Assistant.

    Description:

    The School Psychologist provides services in support of Iowa School for the Deaf's mission which is to prepare deaf and hard of hearing students from pre-school to age 21 for life as literate citizens who contribute in society.

    The School Psychologist collaborates with ISD teachers, school counselors and professionals in other disciplines (e.g. mental health specialists, DHS personnel, other AEA professionals) to assist students in meeting their goals.
    Typical Duties and Responsibilities
    Conduct Assessments
    Oversee school-wide student assessments.

    Complete academic, intellectual, adaptive behavior, and psychological evaluations with deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to 21 including students with additional disabilities.

    Write re-evaluation plans, full and individual evaluations, and comprehensive psychological evaluation reports. Work involves testing and evaluating students to determine instructional placement, support services, and disability eligibilities.
    Assist faculty and support staff in interpreting assessments and other student data.
    Assist faculty and support staff in IEP goal writing and progress monitoring.
    Provide assistance in identifying learners having academic/social-emotional/behavioral/developmental difficulties that could lead to school failure.

    Provide direct consultation, coaching, and modeling of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to faculty and support staff concerning student behaviors, curriculum development/adjustment, student learning style, adoption of methods and materials.

    Arrange, plan, and deliver appropriate agency approved activities, including professional development, as directed by the Principal.
    Oversee IEP Development
    Work with teachers and GHAEA staff to ensure ISD IEPs are compliant and of high quality
    Attend IEPs to discuss assessments
    Provide support for students
    Monitor and help student attainment of academic, social/personal, and emotional competencies
    Counsel students in the personal/social, academic, emotional domains
    Provide crisis counseling
    Provide referral services to community agencies
    Communicate with parent(s)
    Program Support

    Assist with student intakes:
    Tours, contacts, request for records, attend IEP meetings and complete initial evaluations.
    Other duties as assigned to support students or the school
    Professional Development
    Participate in continuing professional development activities to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

    Use research in school practice by (a) reading research literature, (b) distributing and synthesizing research findings, and (c) conducting action research related to applied problems.


    Qualifications:
    Completion of an Education degree and eligible to meet State of Iowa licensure requirements for School Psychologist

    Description:

    The ASL Specialist works collaboratively with the Educational and Outreach Departments at Iowa School for the Deaf providing support and guidance on deaf and hard of hearing student American Sign Language acquisition, development and improvement of knowledge and skills.

    In this role, the ASL Specialist will guide staff on American Sign Language for deaf and hard of hearing students.


    Typical Duties and Responsibilities :
    Travel statewide to provide ASL assessments, consultation, and IEP support for deaf and hard of hearing students throughout Iowa
    Assess deaf and hard of hearing student social and academic ASL language fluency
    Report results of individual assessments on deaf and hard of hearing student IEPs, and prepare summary reports for the Department of Education
    Recommend goals for ASL progress
    Consult with educational teams on the language needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
    Participate in IEP process including attending IEP meetings, sharing ASL assessment data, developing goals, and monitoring ASL progress
    Serve as an ASL coach for staff and students
    Provide ASL intervention for deaf and hard of hearing students as needed to support adequate progress
    Support teachers and staff in developing and implementing appropriate language accommodations in the classroom
    Collaborate with Outreach Department team in the planning and coordination of statewide events to promote awareness of ASL and Deaf culture
    Participate in the curation and development of ASL lessons on a variety of topics and train and assist educational staff in using them
    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Chief Academic Officer
