Our mission:
We research life and the Earth in dialogue with people.


The Museum of Natural History Berlin (MfN) is an excellent and integrated research museum of the Leibniz Association with international impact and a globally connected research infrastructure.


It operates in three closely intertwined fields:
collection-based research, collection development and exploration, and research-based knowledge exchange with society.

In the next ten years, the MfN will develop a science campus for nature and society in the heart of the Berlin science location together with excellent partners.

New laboratories, workspaces for cutting-edge research, and spaces for social innovation will be created.

At the same time, one of the world's most comprehensive natural history collections with over 30 million objects will be housed in modern collection buildings and completely digitized.

The implementation of the future plan, funded with a total of 660 million euros from the federal government and the state of Berlin, can only succeed with strong interdisciplinary national and international partners.
