    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

    The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Position Summary

    Under the general direction of the Sr.

    Clinical Care Manager and the Director of Dermatologic Surgery, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assisting in managing patient care across two faculty practice sites and four divisions, including a hospital-sponsored teaching clinic.

    In addition to primary responsibilities within the division of Dermatologic surgery, the clinical nurse will be expected to assist as reasonably needed in other divisions within the department of dermatology.

    Responsibilities


    Tasks include but are not limited to coordinating patient care; anesthetizing by local injection; assisting in surgical procedures; developing a nurse-patient/family relationship; and assessing and managing patients within all adult age groups from young adults to geriatrics.

    Perform diagnostic testing and analysis of results. The incumbent needs to be a meticulous recorder of patient information. Therefore, excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to extract information during patient history interviews are necessary. The nurse must be able to carefully and easily explain a treatment and follow-up plan to patients.


    Other duties will include ordering appropriate laboratory supplies, following up on results, answering pre- and post-operative questions, performing pre-operative telephone consultations, gathering data, and acting as a liaison.


    • Assist Physicians with assessment, evaluation, and management of patient care of patients.
    • Communicate all clinical activity to supervising Physician.
    • Reports to supervising Physician, assists in surgical procedures
    • Prepare, dilute, and draw up medication as needed for use in the faculty practice and Resident clinic
    • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
    • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses medication as directed
    • Provide Back up support for Derm medical procedures, including phototherapy (able to prescribe and adjust use for both clinic and home us e), Unna boot
    • Assess patients using all available physical and diagnostic data, incorporating medical history and evaluating patient status and progress with the current care plan.
    • Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Provides support when preparing the list of supplies needed.
    • Provide coverage to monitor and assess patients during and after selected therapies. Some infusions will require on-site monitoring if infusion reaction/allergic reaction occurs; perform CPR
    • Attend staff meetings, patient support meetings, and continuing education about specialty as appropriate
    • Participate in all quality improvement/process improvement initiatives
    • Participate in sign-out activities, and all patient follow up
    • Perform patient and family education and counseling, including disease state, management/plan of care, side effect, treatment, medications, all follow up
    • Perform phone triage as appropriate and provide phone follow-up/direction to patient appropriate to the situation
    • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards (e.g., OSHA, JCAHO, DOH, HIPAA, billing compliance, etc.)
    • Provide cross coverage and other duties in other areas as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Candidate must be a Registered Nurse, licensed to practice in New York State.
    • Candidates must have a bachelor's plus at least four years of progressive clinical and supervisory experience, preferably in an academic ambulatory care setting.
    • ACLS certification is required.
    • Knowledge of medical safety practices and ability to evaluate existing standards and implement new policies and procedures; knowledge of current clinical best practices and clinical state-of-the-art procedures; and knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
    • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills (Allscripts electronic medical record, Microsoft Office).
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and within diverse workgroups.
    • Ability to identify problems, research and recommend solutions, develop and maintain quality systems, and exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and independent decision-making.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Dermatology and Mohs experience are strongly preferred.
