Description
Acts on behalf of the University to ensure compliance with regulatory mandates to monitor ongoing research activities approved by various committees housed within the research compliance office such as the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
- Conducts grant-protocol congruence review to verify agreement between agency funded and compliance committee approved research projects.
- Maintains accurate databases of approved activities. Develops and implements a schedule for post-approval review of active research projects.
- Directly observes approved activities and provides immediate feedback to investigators.
- Works with investigators in a collegial and supportive role to facilitate any necessary corrective measures and prevent non-compliance.
- Reports findings to the Director of Research Compliance, IRB, IACUC, IBC or other research oversight committees as needed.
Provides expert level customer service to research faculty, staff, and students.
- Assists in the preparation of research compliance committee applications, forms, and related documents.
- Performs initial review of all new applications to conduct research with humans, animals, or other research oversight committees to determine applicable regulatory requirements and coordinate appropriate institutional review.
- Informs the University community of regulatory requirements related to research activities and provides appropriate level of instruction to ensure their completion.
Coordinates program activities and improvements
- Serves as a voting or alternate member on standing and ad-hoc research compliance committees.
- Maintains records of research compliance documents, communications, and training.
- Regularly reviews documents, application processes, and training modules and suggests improvements to improve dissemination of information and the overall training process/ experience at SIUC.
- Collaborates with units across campus to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, share resources, and effectively enhance service delivery to investigators while promoting a culture of compliance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in health sciences, psychology, or closely related social science field.*
2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) of work experience in administration or service delivery in higher education, government, healthcare, or industry.*
(Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred experience with animal and/or human research and privacy protections.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
