The School of Education is looking for an Academic Advisor to provide comprehensive academic advising services to undergraduate students, guiding them in understanding degree requirements, academic policies, and career opportunities within the field of education. This position plays a crucial role in supporting student success and creating a positive learning environment within the School of Education. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a commitment to student-centered advising practices.

Examples of Duties

• Promote an inclusive environment where all students are valued and supported.
• Establish relationships with students focusing on individual interests, abilities, and values for career decision making.
• Help students develop educational plans related to their degree program of choice.
• Interpret program curricula and prerequisites for students.
• Use various platforms and systems for academic advisement and course registration.
• Teach students how to use different registration and tracking systems effectively.
• Make referrals to appropriate campus offices based on students' needs.
• Maintain academic advising records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
• Participate in retention and recruitment initiatives, advisement meetings, and professional development programs.
• Coordinate course syllabus distribution for articulation consideration.
• Act as a liaison between off-campus sites and on-campus personnel.
• Perform other tasks to enhance academic advisement services.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree, postsecondary environment experience, and academic advising or related experience.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with student information systems like Banner, EAB-Navigate, or SalukiNet; familiarity with degree audit systems and working effectively with diverse populations.
