    The Externals Design Senior Staff Engineer for Advanced Programs will report to the Externals Design Manager within the GE Evendale Advanced Technologies Organization. The engineer will be responsible for designing externals for various ground-test and flight-test technology demonstrator engines, with hardware including tubes, ducts, hoses, harnesses, and brackets. The Engineer will also be responsible for the technical growth of others in the organization through participation in Design Board activities. The maturation of these technologies is central to the realization of aviation industry sustainability goals in the first half of the 21st century.

    Successful mid-career experienced GE Externals Design Engineers possess educational backgrounds including, but not limited to Aerospace and Mechanical engineering.

    This position has the flexibility of optional hybrid schedule once fully trained. The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    As the Externals Senior Staff Engineer, you will:

    • Collaborate with the Systems Integration Team and other hardware module groups to design an externals package that meets cost, weight, reliability, and maintainability objectives.
    • Apply GE best practices and design standards
    • Present results to internal (GE) and external (airframer, government, ) customers
    • Collaborate effectively in a diverse, global, distributed work environment
    • Lead a virtual/global externals module team including Design Engineers, Product Definition, & Stress/Thermal/Flow Analysts to achieve
    • Mentor less-experienced members of the team.
    • Review drawings for technical accuracy.
    • Participate in Design Board activities to further the organizations capabilities in the design discipline.

    Additionally, you will have the responsible to continually mature your personal and professional development through training opportunities, mentorship, and formal career path definition.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelors Degree accredited college or university
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a mechanical design discipline

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Highly-motivated, self-starting, and passionate
    • Exceptional communication skills and willingness to continually improve communication and influencing skills in distributed work environments
    • Significant experience designing jet-engine hardware
    • Significant experience using solid-modelling software
    • Significant experience using Finite Element Analysis and interpreting results
    • Significant experience with MS Office Suite
    • Significant experience with supporting the assembly and test of complex mechanical systems.
    • Demonstrated team leadership, collaboration, and facilitation skills
    • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams
    • Project planning and project management experience
    • Keen listener and innate drive to succeed
