Essential Functions:
This position is responsible for specialized entry-level clerical work in the Criminal section of the District Court.
Responsibilities include entering and processing expungements, reviewing and scanning paperwork, and assisting the public, attorneys, as well as other law and legal agencies.
All essential duties assigned must be performed in an accurate and prompt manner. Upon completion of orientation and initial training, the incumbent will perform specific and measurable tasks under moderate supervisionEducation:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of
Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
Alpha and numerical filing system
Basic legal terminology and able to communicate effectively using such with court personnel and ancillary agencies.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Maryland District Courts.
Skill in
Customer Service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to
Operate a personal computer.
Communicate effectively with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the phone.
Make decisions independently while complying with the MD Rules, as well as the rules and procedures established by the District Court of MD.
Verify scanned documents from other co-workers.
Exercise tact and understanding in pressured situations.
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and work well with others.
Adapt to change and responsibilities.
