Description
This is very responsible professional and administrative work in directing financial accounting activities and involves the management of municipal fiscal affairs including pre-audit, accounting, revenue administration, and financial reporting; and supervision of professional, technical, and clerical employees engaged in the preparation and maintenance of accounting records, financial statements and reports in compliance with fiscal laws and standard accounting procedures.
Work also includes participation in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees.An employee in this class exercises considerable initiative, independent judgment and administrative ability in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the Finance Department.

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Have a valid Bachelor's degree with major course work in accounting, including registration as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Public Finance Officer.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing.
- Have considerable progressively responsible experience in municipal accounting, including supervisory experience.
- Have extensive knowledge of the modern principles and practices of public finance administration and of modern governmental accounting principles.
- Have extensive enterprise accounting software experience.
- Be able to prepare yearend financial statements, adjusting journal entries and related workpapers.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
