    GENERAL SUMMARY:


    Quality Improvement Team Leaders (QITLs) are national leaders in high-reliability, quality improvement methodology and interdisciplinary activities to end preventable harm, to continuously improve patient outcomes and experience, and to eliminate waste in health care.

    QITLs identify risks and improvement opportunities for patient safety, quality of care, hospital ranking/reputation, and performance-based reimbursement. QITLs manage projects and other initiatives to mitigate risks and improve performance. QITLs oversee, foster, and support the effectiveness of functional unit quality improvement teams.

    QITLs partner with Chief Quality Officers, Vice Chairs for Quality, Safety and Service, Physician Advisors and quality improvement committees in identifying, planning, executing and reporting on activities related to JHM strategic objectives and other improvement priorities, professional practice evaluation, quality of care concerns, etc.

    QITLs represent the QI department, assigned functional units and special projects in hospital leadership forums, as requested. QITLs report to the Sr. Director of Quality and Safety and duties include other special projects and tasks as assigned.


    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Education:

    • Masters degree or Masters candidate required in the fields of Nursing, Public Health, Health Policy, Business Administration, Health Administration, Physical Sciences, Technology, or a field related to quality engineering or business process improvement.
    • Completion of an accredited Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy or Physicians Assistant program preferred.
    • Substantial record of participation in educational programs involving quality improvement tools/methods, leadership, teaching, problem solving, and project management is strongly preferred.

    Required Licensure, Certifications:

    • Employees who are clinical are required to have a license in the District of Columbia as a Registered Nurse (RN), Pharmacist, a Medical Doctor (MD), a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), or a Physician Assistant (PA), for examples.
    • All Quality Improvement (QI) Team Leaders must attain National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) professional certification within two years of employment in the Team Leader role, and then maintain the certification as required.
