Department: Collections and Exhibitions

Reports to: Director of Collections and Exhibitions/Chief Registrar

Supervises: Interns and Volunteers, as needed

FSLA Status: Full Time / three-year position

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, some weekend/evenings may be required

Salary: $50,000 annually, with benefits

Position Summary:

The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) seeks applicants for a three-year fellowship position supporting the Art Bridges Foundation's collection loan program and other related initiatives. The Art Bridges fellowship builds on Art Bridges' mission to expand access to American art across the United States and to empower museums to broaden traditional definitions of American art. This Art Bridges Fellow position offers a motivated individual the opportunity to gain curatorial and museum education experience in an art museum. The Art Bridges Fellows Program is dedicated to creating diverse museum leadership with a national cohort of emerging professionals and mentors. With its partner museums, the foundation will establish deep career pathways for historically underrepresented groups in the arts.

The successful candidate will work directly with Curatorial and collaborate with Registrar, Learning, and Interpretation and Engagement Departments as needed on various museum initiatives and priorities including the upcoming Aminah Robinson exhibition tour through Art Bridges, and related loans, exhibitions, and public programs. The Art Bridges Fellow will also attend Art Bridges convenings in Bentonville, Arkansas, including a month-long residency and orientation from September 9-October 4, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with the preparation and planning of the Aminah Robinson exhibition tour, supported by Art Bridges, including organizing label copy and related content, condition reports of artwork, and shipping arrangements.
In collaboration with department curators, conducts curatorial research for exhibitions, permanent collection works, publications, including descriptions and didactic materials such as wall text, labels, and social media content.
Collaborate with CMA Learning and Interpretation & Engagement Departments to develop programming around special exhibitions and the permanent collection, including works on loan from Art Bridges.
Proposes content for CMA's social media presence related to exhibitions and permanent collection.
Provides general curatorial support for the Director of Collections and Exhibitions, department curators, and guest curators.
Working with the registrars, provides logistical and administrative support related to the collections.
Assists with photo documentation of exhibitions and individual works from the permanent collection.
Assists registrars with updating and maintaining the permanent collection database, including the museum's online collection.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

BA or BFA degree or equivalent experience is art history, studio art, museum studies, or related field.
One to two years' experience in museums, galleries, or cultural organizations is preferred.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; heightened attention to detail.
Strong computer skills, including Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up. Experience working with a museum database preferred.
Ability to work both independently and effectively with staff, artists, guest curators, and scholars.
Ability to multi-task on complex projects, meet deadlines and establish priorities.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.
