    Union, KY 41091 USA Description Would you like to work with park's prehistoric past and it's only living mammalian link to the Ice Age? BigBone Lick State Historic Site is located in Boone County, Kentucky. The name of the park comes from thePleistocene megafauna fossils found here and Mammoths believed to have been drawn to salt lick depositedaround the sulfur springs.

    The Animal Care Specialist I position is responsible for the managing and maintaining the park's bison herdand facility. Plans and executes educational programming for park visitors.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Maintains bison facility grounds and trail.
  • Coordinates feeding and purchasing of hay and grain.
  • Keeps health records and complies with USDA laws and regulations.
  • Plans and develops recreational and educational programs.

    • . Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in wildlife management, husbandry or training, veterinary clinic, kennel, farm, stable, aquarium, or zoo will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must become Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Blood borne Pathogens Certified within six months of employment. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials. Working Conditions Incumbent working in this job classification must perform physical labor in an outdoor setting in varying, and sometimes extreme, weather conditions. Persons in this job classification work directly with animals as well as with a variety of heavy equipment and are exposed to the associated hazards. Rotating weekends and holidays required.
