We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 160 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 65,000 individuals and families each year at our 90 locations, including 10,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

    CAMBA's The Kings Inn Family Shelter provides comprehensive case management services to 100 families who are in a transitional residence program for homeless families.

    CAMBA's Flagstone Family Center provides comprehensive case management services to 158 families who are in a Tier II transitional residence program for homeless families

    CAMBA's The Kensington Family Shelter provides comprehensive case management services to 64 families who are in a transitional residence program for homeless families.

    What The Educational Program Coordinator Does:

    • On a site by site basis in consultation with the Department of Education (DOE) and shelter staff, to assist families and students access to the support and resources they need to maintain appropriate levels in their education while ensuring attendance success.
    • Identify the children in most need of intensive support services around attendance using DOE data, CARES and shelter staff feedback.
    • Coordinate 70 case conferences with families and the Department of Education to develop individual plans for students struggling with chronic absenteeism. Use DOE data and shelter staff feedback to identify the children most in need of intensive supports (estimated at 75 children) with a secondary list of children needing moderate support (estimated at 150 children)
    • Develop resources and tools in consultation with the Department of Education (DOE), on a site by site basis, for families and shelter staff to help students access the support they need to maintain appropriate levels in their education. (e.g. one-stop website, welcome packets, and on-site visuals) to inform families how to access and get help with WiFi, important academic dates, and educational resources.
    • Create workshop curriculums and leading activities to help provide families with a schedule and structure that can help carry them into the school year that will serve as behavior modification tools to increase attendance.
    • Identify barriers to attendance success through parent/caregiver engagement along with the social service teams at each of the sites.
    • In collaboration with the social service team and DOE Liaison, conduct screenings, assist in the preparation of independent living plans, including short-term and long-term participant goals. Evaluate families/students with the greatest challenges/poor academic results to identify the primary reasons for non-attendance and grade completion
    • Track attendance along with students identified as Chronically Severally Absent and Chronically Absent on the educational dashboard for all 6 family shelters by utilizing the data from the DOE and CARES attendance report. Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports
    • For families/students who need additional but not intensive support to prepare for the new academic year, create recommendations/tools to be shared with staff during scheduled training sessions
    • In collaboration with the DOE liaison and parents, take the lead on determining if a student is eligible for special education services and how the DOE provides these services
    • Consult with others both inside and outside of CAMBA to determine causes of participant problems and effective solutions
    • Provide group counseling services to assist clients and their families to achieve healthy relationships, emotional stability, personal development and/or adjustment.
    • May act as client liaison/client advocate with outside organizations regarding such matters as education

    Minimum Education/Experience Required:

    • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) and at least 3 years of applicable experience. (M.A. in Education preferred.)

    Other Requirements:

    • Bi-lingual English/Spanish.
    • Must be willing/have the ability to travel to all Family Shelter sites across various boroughs of New York City.
    • Must obtain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance, The Register of Substantiated Category One Cases of Abuse or Neglect aka Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance and Criminal history information checks via fingerprinting with New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services prior to start of employment.
    • Ability to maintain clearances throughout the duration of employment.
    • Must obtain Annual PPD Test.

    Compensation: $50,000-$55,000 annually
    When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

    Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
