    About CSUDH Toro Auxiliary Partners:

    The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners ("TAP") is a non-profit organization and was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to provide supplemental services that enhance core academic programs which are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSUDH is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. CSUDH is one of 23 campuses that comprise the California State University System.

    Position Summary:

    The Gerth Archives and Special Collections Department at CSU Dominguez Hills is looking for a full-time Project Archivist/Metadata Cataloger for a one-year position to assist with the California State University Japanese American Digitization Project (CSUJAD). The position will begin July This position will work with the CSUDH Digital Archivist and report to the Director, Archives and Special Collections. Work will focus on the creation of metadata for various Japanese American records relating to World War II incarceration, activism during the redress movement and other topics. Incumbent may supervise student assistants and interns and participate in other Gerth Archives projects and department work. There may also be some arrangement and description of collections as well as finding aid creation in Archives Space. Performs other duties as assigned. Work may also consist of some digitization work and the use of CONTENTdm. Incumbent will be asked to contribute articles, blog posts social media content as well as participate in various project outreach events. Incumbent will also facilitate the work of the project consultants.

    This CSUJAD collections consists of digitized (or to be digitized) archival or photograph collections relating to the history of Japanese Americans during the 20th century including the incarceration era during World War II. The project materials will focus on materials relating to the Redress Movement, which documented and built the case to provide compensation to Japanese Americans for their treatment during WWII.
    The primary goal of the collection is to facilitate research and documentation on Japanese American history during the 20th century.

    This is a 12-month full-time position with benefits. It is generously funded by a grant through the California State Library and the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program.

    Salary Range: $ $29.00

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Generate metadata for digital objects related to the CSU Japanese American Digitization Project grant awarded by the California State Library
    • Create metadata for project collections/arrange and describe archival materials as needed
    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    The following describes the ideal experience and attributes a successful candidate will offer:
    • Bachelor's degree required. Masters' degree in Library Science or Archival Administration or other related degree preferred.
    • Two-years of experience in a library environment or archival setting with metadata experience. Demonstrated experience with archival best practices.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Interest in digitizing archival material and generating metadata. Interest in Japanese American history. Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Digitization work with the use of CONTENTdm; finding aid creation through use of Archives Space; reference; contribute articles & social media posts.
