Duties:

You will provide emergency fire, medical, and police services to the public by answering emergency 911, calls and responding by properly categorizing the calls, determining the appropriate response, and dispatching field personnel and equipment.
You will evaluate 911 calls, wireless Enhanced 911, and other emergency calls that may be received via commercial phone, emergency phone direct dial, 911 transfers from outside agencies, and/or radio.
You will provide Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system.
You will monitor status and availability of fire, medical, and police field units to ensure an appropriate response is made.
You will refer nonemergency callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies.
You will maintain reports and retrieve needed statistical data using the local authority Fire Incident Reporting System.
You will receive and dispatch appropriate public safety units to all arms, including but not limited to fire alarms, pull stations, smoke detectors, sprinklers systems, Haz-Mat alarms, holdup alarms, intrusion alarms, and motion detectors.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

GS06 Level ONLY

You must obtain and maintain a Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification within one year of appointment.

Qualifications:

This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

GS-06:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following: 1) Dispatching emergency vehicles including police, fire, and medical services personnel; 2) Assessing incoming emergency calls to determine appropriate course of action; and 3) Utilizing emergency communication equipment.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following: 1) Dispatching emergency vehicles including police, fire, and medical services personnel for unique situations (e.g.

involving a variety of complex technologies, multiple casualties, prolonged hazardous materials incidents); 2) Questioning callers to determine nature of calls, record data, analyze and prioritize situations, and dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; and 3) Utilizing emergency communication equipment.
