Posting Summary

  • Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Research Assistant for the department of Neurology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Perform psychophysical experiments with sighted participants and/or low vision patients.
  • Analyze behavioral data collected from experiments, and present data in clear language and plots.
  • Aid with the setup and calibration of laboratory equipment and the experimental design of new studies and investigations.
  • Aid with the recruitment of patients from the Rutgers Ophthalmology and Neurology clinics.
  • Analyze, organize, and present data and results at laboratory meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications
    Minimum Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or Psychology with a background in human psychophysics, or engineering.
  • Training and/or experience with: Programming of behavioral experiments and data analysis (MATLAB, Python, or equivalent), statistical analyses in MATLAB, R, Palamedes or equivalent, the presentation and writing of scientific data and results, and literature search.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: The scholar needs to be physically capable of performing the above duties, including setting up experiments, standing on feet, and walking to other buildings on the campus. Occasionally, certain heavy items in the laboratory may need to be lifted, such as small equipment, computers, computer monitors, and boxes. He/She should communicate his/her research plans and findings to the team verbally and in writing.
  • Work Environment: Lab environment. Moderate Noise.
