    The successful candidate for World Language Department Head will cultivate passion for the learning of world languages as part of our District's commitment to excellence and equity.

    Essential to this work is the design and launch of a new elementary program to introduce language learning at the start of students' Clipper Experience and to provide a complete, vertical opportunity for language learning.

    As global communities converge to enrich our community, translanguaging is a life skill, and the candidate who takes on this role will be the ambassador to this work.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor's Degree in a World Language required.
    Master's Degree in educational leadership or related field required.
    Massachusetts licensure as a World Language teacher required.
    At least five years of successful teaching experience in a World Language required.
    Massachusetts licensure as a Supervisor/Director required.
    Massachusetts licensure as an Assistant Principal/Principal is an acceptable alternative.
    Experience in administration preferred.
    SEI Endorsement preferred.
    Fluency in one or more language – in addition to English – preferred.
    Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Promote positive language learning culture and participation in related opportunities as they are developed and promoted.

    Work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent in the development and implementation of a district-wide vision for language learning and coordinated efforts in professional learning and student learning.

    Lead the development and implementation of departmental curriculum objectives aligned with the learning standards of the curriculum frameworks.
    Design and coordinate an elementary language learning program for grades K - 6.

    Support and extend a secondary language learning program for grades so students continue to develop and practice language learning through advanced placement, the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy, and other experiences made available.

    Facilitate an ongoing program of curriculum development, revision, and evaluation.
    Collect, analyze, interpret, and use data to inform teaching, learning, and instructional leadership.
    Oversee both horizontal and vertical alignment of programming and support learning transitions among schools.

    Collaborate with instructional leaders in curriculum development, horizontal and vertical articulation, and development of teaching and learning, including the design of interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

    Implement a variety of best practices to ensure student learning, growth, and achievement.
    Supervise and evaluate department members using prescribed evaluation procedures.

    Remain current in best instructional and leadership practices through professional readings, attendance at curriculum-focused professional learning, and engagement in other professional conferences and opportunities.

    Develop, facilitate, and implement professional learning for department members.

    Plan and facilitate department meetings on a regularly scheduled basis as outlined in the annual district calendar and conduct post-meeting follow up as needed.

    Assist in communicating the district's instructional program to families, greater community, and community partners and serve as a resource for curriculum inquiries.

    Oversee, inventory, and manage supplies and materials using effective record keeping, distribution, and collection techniques.

    Develop and utilize community resources for department needs.
    Teach classes within the department/discipline.

    Collaborate with guidance counselors to inform high school course selection and ensure proper course placement for students throughout the year at each school.

    Provide input to the principals/assistant principals on the development of the schedule for each school.
    Participate in the hiring process for the discipline and assist in new educator orientation and induction as needed.
    Supervise the daily work assignments of substitute teachers in the department.
    Complete such other department related duties as the Assistant Superintendent or Principals may from time to time assign.
