    Description

    he National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a leading trade organization headquartered in Washington, D.is seeking a seasoned attorney to lead its Office of Association Counsel.

    The vice president, general counsel, will oversee NAHB's in-house legal activities and staff.
    This senior position provides legal advice, counsel and risk analysis on business transactions, association operations and corporate governance. The VP, general counsel will also be involved in all litigation on behalf of the association.

    Provides legal assistance and analysis to the chief executive officer, the senior leadership and all NAHB departments on association operations and business activities.


    • Acts as an NAHB governance and compliance resource, responding to inquiries on bylaws and corporate governance issues for the member leadership, CEO, NAHB staff, committees, councils and subsidiaries. Oversees the activities of the Office of the Corporate Secretary.
    • Coordinates with the VP, legal advocacy, on all in-house litigation responses and manages all document production related to litigation and responses to third-party subpoenas.
    • With the human resources officer, ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations by monitoring new developments and making recommendations for changes as necessary.

    Demonstrated analytical abilities in the areas of non-profit association, law, litigation, hospitality law, contracts, antitrust, and related legal issues.

    Knowledge of human resources activities, policies and procedures.
    Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with leadership within NAHB staff and membership.
    Strong writing skills and the ability to speak and present complex legal information to others.
    Ability to maintain sensitive information on a confidential basis.
    Demonstrated experience in defending and directing other attorneys in litigation as a defendant.

    Minimum of 10 years of experience counseling trade associations or other large organizations on antitrust, contract, litigation and intellectual property issues.

    Substantive experience with the legal, governance, compliance, tax and human resources issues facing non-profit entities.
    Experience supervising a team of legal professionals.
    The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) helps its members build homes and communities.

    Each year, NAHB's members construct about 80% of the new homes built in the United States, both single-family and multifamily.

    A federation of more than 800 state and local associations, NAHB represents more than 140,000 members.

    Other members work in closely related specialties, such as sales and marketing, housing finance, and manufacturing and supplying building materials.
