The University Design Institute (UDI) is seeking a seasoned professional to join our team as a Higher Education Designer.

This individual will serve as a core design expert for UDI's client facing services, both within the university and external to it towards building trusted advisor relationships with senior leaders and influential executives.

This position is based on site in the UDI's ASU SkySong offices located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Travel domestically and internationally may be required in support of UDI projects. The role will report directly to the Executive Director of Services.

Essential Duties

  • Design and lead often complex, executivelevel engagements within higher education and in related areas, navigating crosscultural dynamics and stakeholder groups.
  • Build trust among clients, participants, and support personnel to create safe and constructive spaces for deep conversations and guide groups towards alignment and solutions.
  • Creatively design engaging processes using a wide variety of strategic planning, design thinking, and other innovation frameworks across projects.
  • Facilitate codesign processes, workshops, and other types of events with creativity, enthusiasm and attention to detail; skilled in adapting approaches and agendas to achieve client goals.
  • Manage stakeholders and client expectations, while holding steady to UDI's core values and design principles.
  • Develop new design methodologies, frameworks and tools to support client needs and advance UDI's design practice.
  • Competently manage self and others through ambiguous and challenging situations to support expansion of thinking.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of engagements.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging ideas in design and facilitation to advance innovative solutions for UDI's clients.
  • Travel domestically and internationally in support of UDI projects

Minimum Qualifications


Masters degree in design, higher education administration, non-profit management, communication, organizational behavior or management, AND five (5) years of experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working across multiple stakeholders, levels of organizational structure, sectors and geographical regions, with deep experience in higher education institutions, systems, and personnel.
  • Experience in thematic areas relevant to higher education, including social design, governance models, leadership, financing models, digital transformation, policy, or related domains.
  • Demonstrated certifications, credentials, training, or education experience in codesign, facilitation, coaching, or other relevant design work.
  • Experience in working within higher education to advance transformation.
  • Experience in developing codesign methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with working across cultures.
  • Experience working with csuite and executive level individuals or groups.
  • Understanding of emerging trends in higher education and how these impact transformation engagements.

Working Environment

  • This position is based on site in the UDI's ASU SkySong offices located in Scottsdale, Arizona
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
