    The Executive Director of Fiscal and Business Operations serves as the chief financial officer of The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

    Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost and Dean of The College, and working in collaboration with the Dean and other members of the College leadership team, the Executive Director of Fiscal and Business Operations provides strategic and operational direction in support of the College's financial mission and vision.

    The successful candidate will be creative and collaborative, have the ability to assess the financial viability of alternative opportunities and provide guidance to Deans and Unit leadership, and build trusting relationships within both the College and the University.

    The Executive Director must thrive in an entrepreneurial culture while working within university parameters.

    The successful candidate will have the skills to maintain and further develop the high-performing, inclusive business community that exists within the College and the University.


    Working Environment


    Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

    Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
    Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
    Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.

    Minimum Qualifications


    Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field AND eight (8) years of administrative experience in accounting, auditing and/or fiscal management, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

    Desired Qualifications


    • Five (5) years senior financial operations and budget management experience in a major research university.
    • Experience in accounting, fiscal management, budget preparation and forecasting.
    • Experience in managing a large complex budget with funding from multiple sources.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the financial complexities associated with sponsored projects and contracts.
    • Experience in leading change initiatives, formulating policy and development and implementation of new financial strategies and procedures.
    • Experience in thinking strategically, anticipating future consequences and trends and incorporating them into the decision process.
    • Experience in developing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships both within and across organizational areas.
    • Experience in management and supervisory principles and practices.
    • Experience in using accounting/financial software applications, including Workday and Adaptive Planning.

    Essential Duties


    • Direct the fiscal and business operations of The College and its Units, specifically in the areas of accounting, financial operations and reporting, and payroll activities.
    • Provide financial leadership for initiatives including oversight of and participation in planning, developing and administering complex budgets involving multiple funding sources.
    • Responsible for forecasting and tracking financial performance in total and by division/unit within The College.
    • Develop financial analyses, long- and short-range financial reports which include modeling and forecasting of prospective revenues and expenditures under different assumptions and scenarios for internal and external audiences.
    • Actively manage and strategically evaluate the College's resources, ensuring that funds are stewarded appropriately, allocated and deployed for maximum benefit.
    • Implement appropriate internal controls and effective business practices, and perform quality reviews and audits to ensure compliance.
    • Lead, supervise, and mentor staff members in the College's Office of Fiscal and Business Operations.
    • Manage and track college hiring plan for tenure-track faculty.
    • Serve as a consultant and mentor for business and financial administrators throughout the College.
    • Work cooperatively with university senior leadership on various requests ensuring timely responses and confidentiality.
    • Serve on college and university committees as appropriate.
    • Serve as a finance and budget matter expert to the College's senior leadership and the following administrative offices within the college: information technology, student and academic programs, graduate programs, research administration, facilities, development, and marketing and communications.
    • Continually explore ways to improve efficiency of operations in all spheres of the position; exhibit a positive, customer oriented, and supportive attitude; and be an advocate for change throughout The College.
