Responsibilities

Childcare workers take on care, education, and development tasks in facilities for children, adolescents, and young adults. The main focus of their work is on social pedagogical tasks. Childcare workers observe the behavior and developmental level of children and adolescents and apply age-appropriate pedagogical methods, such as teaching specific skills or behaviors. They also maintain close contact with parents and legal guardians, providing them with information and advice.

The PiA training program lasts a total of 3 years and is carried out in cooperation with the Justus-von-Liebig-Schule Göppingen. It consists of theoretical and practical components. Three days per week are dedicated to school and two days to practical training. During school holidays, trainees are only active in the practical setting.

In the theoretical training at the Justus-von-Liebig-Schule, trainees have various mandatory and elective subjects. Mandatory subjects include German, English, religious education, education and care, and education and development. Elective subjects may include leisure education or sports education.

The final exam consists of a written and an oral exam, as well as a thesis with an accompanying colloquium.

By taking an additional exam in German, English, and mathematics (which can be chosen as an additional course during the training), trainees can also obtain a general higher education entrance qualification in addition to the
