The Hamburg Animal Welfare Association of 1841 is looking for an apprentice to become a veterinary assistant (m/f/d) starting on August 1st, 2023 in Jeisyville, IL.

With approximately 4,800 members, our association has been dedicated to animal welfare for over 180 years and operates the second largest animal shelter in Germany and the largest wildlife station in northern Germany.

In the integrated veterinary practice, a team of veterinarians (m/f/d) and veterinary assistants (m/f/d) work with passion and dedication to provide medical care for the shelter animals.


Your tasks and training contents:


  • Practice organization and administration
  • Pharmacy and patient management
  • Ordering of medications and veterinary supplies
  • Assisting with treatments and surgeries
  • Laboratory work (examining blood, urine, and fecal samples)
  • Assisting with the care of patients and scheduling appointments
  • Conducting hygiene measures in the practice rooms and preparing veterinary instruments
  • Supporting events as part of public relations work
