    $ $25.00 HOURLYThe City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities (DPR/PRCF) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for Community Forestry Project Coordinator. This position would be charged with coordinating efforts by internal City stakeholders in the shared goal of increasing and maintaining urban tree canopy coverage, through partnerships with community organizations and groups.

    This goal will be met through the creation of new community oriented programming, focused on engagement with residents in shared stewardship of treed park spaces within City of Richmond (CoR) managed property.

    In conjunction with the development of the Office of Community Stewardship within DPR, this program will also better connect and coordinate with community groups that are interested in and/or already do work within our green spaces.

    Resource building and maintenance of Northside Nursery - a DPR owned greenhouse and nursery focused on growing trees and woody perennials for planting on City property.

    Responsibilities for this space would include general nursery management (procurement, sourcing, and planning), tree cultivation and propagation, as well as creating opportunities for community outreach and projects within the space, to further engage residents in caring for and expanding our urban tree canopy.

    Coordinating and collaborating with other DPR staff on community tree plantings within Park spaces.

    Project management responsibilities would include and are not limited to permitting, development of planting plans, sourcing and procurement, budgeting and grant writing, community outreach, and staff and equipment scheduling.

    Acting as liaison between DPR and community groups working/interested in maintaining trees in Park spaces.

    This role will help streamline communication between the City and the community, and include tasks ranging from coordinating community volunteer tree care activities, aiding organizations in planning and logistical support for tree plantings, communicating tree oriented news/plans/initiatives from the CoR to impacted community groups, and collaborating with other CoR departments and divisions in achieving shared goals that fall in line with the Citys urban tree canopy objectives, as outlined in Richmond 300 and RVAGreen 2025.Working alongside DPR staff to cultivate knowledge and education of the importance of trees and green spaces within the City of Richmond, as well as championing equitable access and benefits to all City residents.


    MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    High School Diploma or GEDOne year of college preferredThree years of experience directly related to assignmentAn equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classificationLICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or

    ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

    Working conditions may include exposure to travel to other locations within the City of Richmond as well as outside of the City of Richmond; exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, etc.; atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation; inadequate lighting; intense noise; and environmental hazards such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.


    Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

    Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint.

    The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly finger and see; frequently talk and hear; and occasionally balance, stoop, crouch, stand, pull, grasp, and feel.

    The working conditions may include environmental hazards.

    In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
