    Work environment

    This opportunity is asked to work in office a majority of the time with flexibility to work remotely as needed and will be located near the Fargo, ND or Bismarck, ND office locations. This role will also be required to travel frequently to other BCBSND district offices within the state of North Dakota. We empower our employees to find a work style that is best for them.     A day in the life

    The Manager of Individual and Senior Markets is responsible for managing sales and retention activities within the individual and senior markets. Additionally, this position establishes strong relationships with key contacts, brokers, agencies, and agents to achieve sales and retention goals.

    Your responsibilities will include

  • Leads and guides employees in accomplishing work objectives within the unit(s). Coaches, motivates, rewards, and recognizes employees. Sets clear goals and objectives, sets performance expectations, and holds employees accountable for achieving results.
  • Cultivates, maintains, and builds relationships with customers, both internal and external business partners, along with the community we serve through telephonic, virtual, and face-to-face interactions with individuals and groups.
  • Creates and delivers effective presentations to consultants, brokers, agencies, and/or other key customers to increase awareness and promote lines of business.
  • Develops and implements sales and retention strategies aligning with the company growth and profitability goals.
  • Serves as liaison to drive and influence broker/consultant engagement.
  • Establishes sales quotas, tracks performance against expectations and suggests modifications to sales strategy or approach.
  • Develops competitive assessments, product and sales training, or pricing and contracting assistance to the sales team.
  • Actively participates in product development, pricing, and communication efforts.
  • Monitors competitor products, pricing, weaknesses, and strengths to develop business strategy and promote our value proposition.
  • Researches and resolves escalated calls/issues and follows up with appropriate individuals or areas, as needed.
  • Maintains relationships with key contacts within the market segments, to identify needs and market trends.
  • Ensures the department operates within budget including oversight of expenses, seeks efficiencies, reviews expense reports and ensures they are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Travel outside of core business location required.
  • What you need to succeed

  • A Bachelor's Degree with at least 6 years of experience in sales, sales development, product development, broker sales and support or related experience.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience with the responsibility or selecting, managing and developing staff.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a North Dakota Insurance Producer License, including the passing of the Accident, Health, Life and Annuity exams within 3 months of hire and maintain continuing education requirements annually.
  • Must have an active and valid driver's license which allows for standard driving privileges in North Dakota and Minnesota.
  • Organized and proficient in collecting data with the ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
  • Possesses strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of industry objectives to support the overall business strategy.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
