    Department Overview

    The position provides financial analytic services to the Director of Budget & Finance.

    This is a senior-level position that applies advanced knowledge and skills; often performs difficult and complex tasks and provides guidance, assistance and training to more junior-level analysts.

    Typically assigned to support larger and/or more complex area teams.


    Services include analysis of budget variances for all funds and orgs under the Provost Office, including recommendations to correct negative trends or variances.

    Provides consolidated financial reports for Director of Budget & Finance and Vice Provost of Finance & Administration. Prepares financial reports and projections with options for improving budget performance, and cost efficiency. Assists the Director of Budget & Finance in the preparation of the Operating and Capital budgets. Provides cost-benefit analysis of existing or new programs. Processes financial transactions, purchasing, A/P and A/R, Journal Entries and approve Pcard transactions.


    This position must be detail oriented, possess strong financial & organizational skills, be flexible, have the ability to work in a team environment as well as being self-directed, have ability to set and prioritize obtainable goals and work efficiently under pressure of multiple deadlines for multiple areas.

    $ $53.75 per hour

    Function/Duties of Position


    • Reporting &

    Variance Analysis:
    Utilizing OHSU financial systems, prepares monthly financial reports with variance analysis including recommendations for mediating negative trends. Re-forecasts actual financial performance based on changing business conditions.

    Prepares monthly financial reports for Directors and Managers under the Provost and SVPR together with an executive summary for the Director of Budge & Finance.

    Under the direction of Director, prepares cost benefit analysis, risk analysis, new program pro-formas.
    • General accounting duties: Duties include Labor Distribution (LD), data entry, ledger reconciliation, variance reporting and investigating, maintenance of faculty funding profiles (current & pending funds), account & expense documentation, data management, development & implementation of accounting procedures, anticipation & preparation of appropriate post-award paperwork (cost transfers, JEs, sub-award request forms, prior approval forms, accelerated spending forms, etc), monitoring & resolving open POs & invoices on hold, anticipation & preparation of appropriate paperwork for new accounts. Includes working with appropriate offices at OHSU (Provost, SVPR, A/P, Purchasing, etc) to resolve accounting issues.
    • Prepares Department Budget and serves as a financial resource by understanding all department commitments, tracking commitments, and ensuring that department financial goals are met. Includes preparing operating and capital budget, being knowledgeable about budget policies by interacting with Provost's Office & CFS to prepare budget, understanding & ensuring adherence to faculty compensation plan, preparing financial forecasts with a variety of variables & scenarios, tracking expenses, variance reporting & investigating, reconciliations, preparing financial statements/reports/projections, and providing oral & written financial advice for health of departments to Director of Budget & Finance.
    • Provides oral & written advice/recommendations to requisitioners, office staff, faculty, & lab personnel in financial matters including but not limited to SPA, A/P, Purchasing (includes p-card), Oracle, Provost's Office, & CFS policies and procedures.
    • Prepares POs, LD transfers, p-card request forms, Oracle access forms, special financial reports as specified by Department Administrator & Char. Also serves as Effort coordinator.
    • Process financial transactions including disbursements, reimbursements, p-card reconciliations, invoice payments, and departmental purchasing
    • Other related duties
    Required Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
    • If from a related field, candidate must have 36 hours of accounting courses from an accredited college or university.
    • All candidates must have 2 years of professional healthcare and/or relevant financial analysis experience.
    • Understanding and experience in financial accounting and reporting methodologies
    • Ability to prepare and analyze financial reports and budgets
    • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Ability to exercise diplomacy, establish effective working relationships and maintain a high degree of professionalism in dealing with customers and peers.
    • Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in a changing environment, possess excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrate understanding of basic financial activities related to the input and maintenance of financial records and reports.
    • Proficient with the use of computers and variety of software for databases, spreadsheets and word processing required (MS Office Suite).
    • Experience working under deadline pressure and the ability to maintain a high level of energy in the face of many competing demands.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Proficient in Oracle software including General Ledger, iProcurement, and Labor Distribution.
    • Proficient with Cognos Software; reporting and budgeting.
    • Knowledge and understating of OHSU & OHSUF Policies and Procedures
    • Advanced experience using computerized spreadsheets and databases
    • Strong communication skills
